Duties And Responsibilities
Position Overview:
The Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) is currently seeking a part-time Research Operations Coordinator to join their team. CMIS is a Carleton University Research Centre (CURC) affiliated with the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Over the past two decades, CIMS has earned an international reputation working with public, private, and not-for-profit partners. Our diverse portfolio demonstrates the value of new and emerging digital technologies for architectural rehabilitation, heritage conservation, and the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry more generally.
CIMS is involved in five streams of inquiry: Digitization, Modelling, Digitally Assisted Fabrication, Digitally Assisted Storytelling, and Digital Twinning. These diverse research interests have cultivated a multi-disciplinary team that includes research associates and assistants, post-doctoral fellows, and undergraduates from a range of disciplines, including architecture, computer science, engineering, human–computer interaction, public history, and information technology. This diversity and commitment to multidisciplinarity have created a unique research and training environment that is conducive to imagination, innovation, and a comprehensive research education. This position reports to the Director and Associate Director of CIMS. As part of the management team at CIMS, the role of the Research Operations Coordinator is to manage the daily operations of the lab.
Main Duties
Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will carry out the following responsibilities:
Coordinate day-to-day operations in the lab Set and monitor project budgets and financial reporting Acquire lab equipment and infrastructure Liaise with Carleton University administration and faculty Recruit, hire, assign, compensate, and evaluate researchers and ensure their general well-being Ensure financial compliance with university and funding agency requirements Coordinate communication across internal teams and with external partners and stakeholders
Qualifications
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
Core Skills Must Include
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with academic, government, and industry partners Experience managing budgets and financial reporting Demonstrated experience in research coordination, project management, or operations management, preferably in an academic or research environment Strong understanding of the Canadian research funding landscape (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR, CFI, and/or federal agency programs) Experience with financial reporting and compliance Proficiency with standard office and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoho) Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, from students and researchers to industry partners and Carleton University employees Organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize competing demands Comfortable working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment Has a growth mindset and is receptive to changes in the technology and research landscape Eligible for federal security clearance in Canada Demonstrated experience working in or with multi-disciplinary teams
The Following Skills And Experience Would Be An Asset
Familiarity with Carleton University policies, systems, and research administration processes Experience working with federal government partners (e.g., Library and Archives Canada, National Research Council, Department of National Defence, Parks Canada)
Education And Experience
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
Education
College diploma or undergraduate degree.
Experience
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in research administration, project coordination, or a related role.
