As a Plumber Journeyman, you will maintain, inspect, install, repair and replace furnace and hot water tank fixtures located in Calgary Housing multi-family residential buildings, including apartment towers, walk up apartment buildings and row housing. Primary duties include:
- Receive and respond to service calls for preventative maintenance, demand repairs, contractor support, or troubleshooting residential furnaces and hot water tanks.
- Order and pick up required parts and arrange for access to the resident unit.
- Investigate complaints, troubleshoot to identify the sources of problems and conduct or organize repairs. Complete service and repair records.
- Report major issues along with suggested scopes of repair to the Maintenance Administrator or Technical Services Coordinator and the Plumbing Foreman.
- Help the Technical Services Coordinator and Plumbing Foreman with the monitoring and inspection of contractor work.
- Help in setting up an internal preventative maintenance program for furnaces and hot water tanks.
- Conduct preventative inspections and perform regular maintenance of all furnace and hot water tank fixtures, ensuring safety standards and code requirements are followed.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents including advice on maintaining their units and contact information for non-maintenance related inquiries.
- Use mobile maintenance apps to manage all work orders and inspections as required.
- Recommend opportunities for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- A completed Plumber Journeyman certificate or equivalent interprovincial Red Seal as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
- At least 18 months of related post-ticket Journeyman experience is required.
- Preference will be given to applicants with furnace and hot water tank installation and repair experience, and those who have had commercial service experience.
- A Gasfitter "B" Ticket is required.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending.
- A Cross Connection Control Ticket and the ability to register with The City of Calgary will be an asset.
- Success in this position requires strong problem solving and interpersonal skills; the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a high call, customer-oriented work environment and adjust to changing priorities.
Working Conditions: This position will travel between residential buildings and is exposed to dirt, dust, noise, limited spaces, bodily fluids, pests, hot and cold temperatures.
Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced security clearance and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be conducted.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
