Contribution:
The Stopping the Violence (STV) Outreach Worker position is a component of the STV
Program. The objective of this portion of the STV program is to assist women, who have
experienced violence, abuse or threats, in creating a positive lifestyle that ensure her safety
and ability to maintain this standard to women living in the Whistler, Mt. Currie, Pemberton
and outlying areas.
Qualifications:

A Grade Twelve (12) diploma.

Three years experience and a working knowledge of theory, practices and principles
in the area of Women and Violence.
- Proven record of experience working with women in a support capacity, in both
one-on-one and group settings.
Job skills and abilities:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to encourage women in the process of establishing a healthier lifestyle.
-
Ability to develop and maintain knowledge regarding the services/resources and
provide liaison services for women in the Northern portion of the Sea to Sky Corridor.
- A commitment to the philosophies and values expressed within the program and
organization.
-
Ability to work with individuals, groups and/or community service providers.
-
Ability to work independently.
Responsibilities:
- Develop an individual service plan for each woman, to assist her with goals set by
the woman and the STV Outreach Worker. Plan is to be based on the individual
needs of the woman, using the target services provided by this program, including
but not limited to:
a. Culturally appropriate public education initiatives to increase public awareness
of the effects of violence, abuse, threats has on women
b. Supportive group or individual counselling for women in or out of the transition
house and to women living in the area who have experienced violence, abuse
or threats.
c. Support services through education and referrals and/or information about other
available resources in her area.
d. Identify the service needs of women in the local communities.
- Gather information, relevant to STV concerns – follow through on record keeping,
forms and statistical data reports required by the program.

Responsible for case management and consultation with other service providers.

Maintain direct contact in a caring, positive manner, which respects their personal
growth, dignity and lifestyle.

Act as an appropriate role model.

Instigate changes in policy and updates within the program.

Promote respect and confidentiality of all clients who participate within the
program.

Work as a team member with other SSCSS staff and other area service providers.
-
Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisals under the direction of
the Manager/Director of Outreach Services.

Represent the organization positively and professional manner.
-
Report bi-weekly to the Manager/Director of Outreach Services for case
consultation.
- Other related duties as required.

Benefits and Perks:
Healthcare: We offer an extended health program for employees who work 20 hrs/wk or
more. The program through Group Health covers MSP premiums, dental, vision, prescription
medication, select alternative therapies, life insurance, and long-term disability. We also
have an Employee and Family Assistance program. The premiums of the plan are 100% paid
by the employer.
Vacation & Leave: Employees accumulate 6% vacation pay on all hours worked in the first
and second year of employment. After the first two years of employment, they earn one
additional day of vacation per year of service, to a maximum of 35 workdays.
Retirement Pension: When eligible, an employee will be enrolled in the Municipal Pension
Plan with a matching contribution by SSCS.
Other Perks: Casual dress, employee events, on-site parking, paid sick days, and more.
Compensation: As per the BCGEU Collective Agreement, the wage is $27.54 per hour.
