Division: Calgary Radio – QR Calgary – 770 CHQR
Work Status: Full-Time Location: Calgary, AB (On-site) About the Role: QR Calgary - 770 - is looking for a full-time Morning Talk Show Co-Host to join our team. You bring great story ideas and know how to prep and work with a team. You have curiosity and a thirst for knowledge in most (if not all) areas of life – news, sports, entertainment. We want you to bring our listeners the stories behind the headlines and expand their minds with knowledge in a fun, engaging, entertaining and unique way. You understand that in the modern media world, your job goes beyond just the time the mic is on. You have a savvy approach to social media and know how to get attention in the online world. You bring positivity to the studio and like to laugh. Finally, you know you’re a star, but also know stars shine brightest when the team wins. There are some more details below about the role. You will contribute by
Preparing and co-hosting a live radio talk show five days a week. Researching news/current affairs stories and preparing them expertly for broadcast and digital media. Creating original angles and approaches to stories. Tell engaging stories that are relatable and relevant. Recording promos and making live promotional appearances. Being a curious and strategic interviewer. Finding creative ways to engage with listeners, callers, guests, and other Corus content. Collaborating with Global News TV and programming development. Developing and maintaining a network of contacts. Representing Corus Radio and QR Calgary as brand ambassadors. Meeting and exceeding ratings expectations. Aligning with the Canadian Broadcast Standard. Being collaborative with colleagues, partners, clients and listeners. Performing other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring
Post-secondary education (or equivalent experience) in broadcast journalism or a related field. Several years of relevant experience in radio (AM or FM), TV, social media, broadcasting, news, or podcasting required. Compelling storyteller with an appreciation for the human-interest side of news and sports stories. Outstanding on-air presentation and communication skills. Ability to curate stimulating and engaging conversations. Excellent research and interviewing skills. Comprehensive knowledge of local, national, and international news and community events. A unique perspective. Ability to write for all platforms and proficiency in social media. Experience with diverse and inclusive storytelling. Expertise in audio editing preferred. Familiarity with various news gathering software. Understanding of WordPress and Canadian Press style preferred. Creative, energetic, fun, and outgoing. A positive attitude, and a love for collaboration and teamwork. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to meet strict, short deadlines and work well under pressure.
