About the Role

As a Lead System Architect, you will play a key role in guiding the Software Development team, shaping system design, and delivering high‑quality technical solutions. This position requires strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and hands‑on development experience with Java and Spring Boot.

In this role, you will:

• Collaborate with Systems Architects, Software Team Leads, and Developers to design, build, and deploy robust technical solutions.
• Analyze complex requirements and design, develop, and troubleshoot database‑driven applications.
• Review functional specifications and produce clear technical documentation for programs, subsystems, and system designs.
• Develop solution approaches, define project tasks, and estimate effort for delivery.
• Apply industry best practices along with existing architectural standards, ensuring all new work aligns with organizational guidelines and technical quality expectations.

Work Model

At Cognizant, flexibility and wellbeing are core to how we support our teams. Based on current business needs, this role is onsite, requiring five days per week in a Cognizant or client office located in Calgary, Alberta. These working arrangements reflect the requirements at the time of posting and may evolve depending on project, business, or client needs. We will always communicate expectations clearly.

What You Need to Be Considered

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
• 15+ years of experience as a senior Java developer
• Strong technical expertise in Java, Spring Boot, TypeScript, and JavaScript

Compensation & Benefits

We regularly review market data to ensure competitive compensation for our associates. The base salary range for this position is $120,000 – $140,000 per year. Placement within this range depends on education, relevant experience, and job‑related qualifications. This role is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance bonus and a comprehensive benefits package supporting your physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.
