The Indigenous Business Department at NVIT is seeking a full-time, ongoing Instructor – Indigenous Business to join our growing team.

Rooted in Community-led Indigenous Knowledge Systems and guided by Storywork, the Indigenous Business (IBUS) program empowers learners to navigate the complex landscape of business within Indigenous contexts. With a strong focus on land governance, sustainable economic practices, and cultural responsibility, the program integrates traditional teachings with contemporary business principles—supporting graduates to advance economic sovereignty and community well-being.

The Indigenous Business Department is committed to creating learning spaces that honour Indigenous worldviews, foster collaboration, and build capacity for Community-based leadership and innovation. In keeping with the program’s purpose of Indigenous-led education and culturally grounded teaching, this position is open to Indigenous candidates, ensuring that learners benefit from instructors with lived experience, cultural knowledge, and a deep understanding of Indigenous business contexts.

Key Responsibilities

The full-time continuing Instructor will play a key role in supporting the ongoing growth and development of the Indigenous Business Department. Responsibilities include:

• Teaching and supporting courses within the Indigenous Business program that reflect Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Storywork principles.
• Coordinating program delivery on-campus and in Community-based settings, including working collaboratively with partner Nations and organizations.
• Supporting curriculum development that bridges Indigenous and contemporary business practices.
• Engaging in departmental planning, program review, and the continued advancement of Indigenous-led education models.
• Carrying out Department Chair responsibilities aligning with NVIT’s collective agreement.
• Contributing to student mentorship, academic advising, and community relationship-building.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• A minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience in classroom and hybrid teaching with Indigenous adult learners.
• Proficiency with digital learning platforms and technology, including tools for online, hybrid, and in-person instruction.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated connections and roots within Indigenous communities.
• Excellent teaching and human relations skills, with the ability to contribute positively to the life of the department, school, and broader community.
• Lived experience in Indigenous culture, perspectives, and community practices, bringing personal insight to teaching and mentorship.
