About the role

We’re looking for a dynamic, hands-on Marketing Director to lead and scale our Marketing Department. Reporting to the VP Marketing and Customer Experience, the Marketing Director, will be responsible for delivering strategic marketing plans and leading the execution of all consumer-facing communication. The Marketing Director will demonstrate a passion for understanding and serving consumers, a curiosity to understand business and brand performance, and a pride in our story, our product and our quality.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Translate business situation, consumer understanding and brand foundations into consumer-focused Marketing Strategy to deliver against our KPIs and our Strategic Plan

  • Bring thought leadership and novel approaches to elevate ideation, brand communication, and brand creative development

  • Bring entrepreneurial thinking and small brand grit to lead all marketing activities from brief to execution

  • Develop compelling narratives that clearly communicate our Small-Town Canada Values to customers.

  • Lead social media content development and execution across multiple platforms, leveraging learnings and testing innovative approaches to drive awareness, engagement, and trial

  • Oversee breakthrough multi-channel consumer-driven innovation strategy, ideation, research, and execution

  • Work collaboratively with a broad cross-functional team to drive multi-faceted commercialization projects from strategy to ideation and execution

  • Work collaboratively with our Retail Team to deliver impactful in-store communication and retail innovation to drive retail revenue, profits, awareness, and trial

  • Work collaboratively with our Manager, Consumer Care to understand consumer opportunities and recommend and develop corresponding action plans

  • Mine syndicated data and lead qualitative and quantitative research as needed to understand category dynamics, competitive environment, consumer perceptions and behaviours to influence Marketing and Innovation Strategy

  • Work collaboratively with our Sales Team to develop channel strategies and customer sell-stories

  • Own, track and reconcile the Marketing Budget

  • Lead, coach and develop Marketing Team

Key Requirements:

  • Post Secondary Education with preference for Commerce or Marketing focus

  • 10+ years of consumer-facing brand marketing experience, preferably in CPG or fast-paced Retail/QSR

  • Proven track record of leading low-cost, high-impact marketing communication, big ideas and building beloved brands

  • Proven expertise in social media, PR and community driven initiatives

  • Strong history of product innovation and building brands through breakthrough innovation from ideation to strategy and execution

  • Curious ideas-person with a natural ability to story-tell and a a relentless focus on providing an exceptional consumer experience

  • Excellent cross-functional collaborator and influencer

  • Natural leader with strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communicator

  • A resourceful self starter with a positive hands-on approach and eagerness to operate both strategically and tactically

  • Willingness to roll up their sleeves and lead in-house from strategy to execution (with little/no agency support)

Kawartha Dairy has been making great family memories for over 85 years. We are proud to continue to be a 100% Canadian-owned company, still operated by the same family that founded it in 1937. Although the company has grown tremendously from its early days, it remains headquartered in the small lakeside Canadian town of Bobcaygeon where it was founded.

Today Kawartha Dairy operates 13 retail stores and services a wide range of customers, from grocery stores to food service establishments and of course, ice cream parlours. Fresh milk and fresh cream is received daily from local farms and the rich and creamy milk and ice cream are still made the traditional way.
