About the role

In this role, you will work within a team to execute project plans associated with optical systems and test systems, ensuring that all engineering requirements are met. You will provide technical assistance to other engineers, troubleshoot issues, and lead or contribute to the development of innovative solutions to resolve complex customer issues.

You will report directly to one of our Sr Engineering Managers and you will work out of our Cambridge location in Canada.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support and guidance to engineering teams with respect to the development and testing of optical systems and test systems.

  • Develop and execute project plans associated with building and testing optical hardware including telescopes, fiber assemblies, and laser systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex engineering problems associated with manufacturing and testing of optical systems.

  • Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards and customer requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and efficiency.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant design and test experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in breadboard, laboratory, or operational optical systems.

The Honeywell building is a controlled goods program environment. Candidates must be eligible for CGP and CSP clearance.

WE VALUE

  • Experience in terrestrial astronomy.
  • Experience with space missions.
  • Experience with free-space optical communications.
  • Experience with fiber lasers and/or Class 4 lasers in a breadboard, laboratory, or operational environment.
  • Experience with the complete engineering lifecycle (design to volume production)
  • Optical simulation experience (Zemax, Code-V, Light Tools, Trace Pro, and other industry standard tools).
  • Parametric mechanical modeling experience (Pro-Engineer, CREO, and Solidworks).
  • Experience with Matlab.
  • Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done and are willing to do things before being asked by others or forced to by events.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and people-oriented skills. Strong document writing skills.
