COWI is seeking a Heavy Civil/Structural Engineer to join our collaborative team in Toronto. In this role, you will collaborate closely with experts on some of North America's most impactful projects, primarily focusing on exciting bridge, tunnel, and marine work. We believe in developing versatile engineers who can apply their skills across various disciplines, promoting a culture of continuous learning and growth.

Your key responsibilities will be to: 

  • Perform and lead duties including structural analysis, steel and concrete design, and evaluations including the development of work plans, schedules, and budgets focused on heavy civil (structural) projects, including bridges.
  • Prepare coherent and organized design calculations and drawings in accordance with applicable design codes.
  • Create standard documents such as technical and construction specifications under applicable design codes, including engineering reports, and other technical documentation.
  • Liaise with clients, professionals, and third parties to ensure project success and facilitate knowledge exchange.
  • Collaborate with CAD and BIM modelers to bring our clients' visions to life, including projects that integrate different engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct inspections and site visits as necessary, enhancing your practical experience in diverse environments.

On top of that, you will: 

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or higher, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience in heavy civil structural design (bridge, tunnel, marine structures), or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Be a registered Professional Engineer in home province or state, or ability to obtain registrations within 12 months of employment
  • Be familiar with the use of structural design codes such as CSA:S6, and/or AASHTO.
  • Along with having sufficient exposure to structural analysis software programs (ex: CSiBridge, MIDAS, SOFiSTiK)
  • Be conversant in the use of engineering and drafting software such as Excel, Mathcad, AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu to efficiently produce engineering calculations and supporting documentation.

Base compensation: $72,800 to $112,800 for Toronto location only. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, skill set and/or location
