About the role
We are looking for a CNC Machinist who balances technical mastery with a natural ability to lead and mentor. You won’t just be "pushing buttons"—you’ll be responsible for complex programming, precision machining, and, most importantly, mentoring our junior operators to elevate the team’s overall skill set. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for programming, measuring, inspecting and ensuring high-quality production within specified tolerances while maintaining a safe and organized work environment and working as part of the larger AGI Swift Current manufacturing team. Duties may also include occasional operation of a variety of machines that cut, bend, roll or otherwise shape metal as well as the operation of forklifts or other power mobile equipment as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, charts and tables
- Use G-code to assist in troubleshooting, optimizing, or running manual data input commands.
- Compute dimensions, tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces
- Set-up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including CNC tools to perform precision machining operations
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
- Ensure the cleanliness and deburring on parts as required
- Maintian a clean, hazard-free work area while participating in and adhereing to company OH&S policies and procedures
- Share technical knowledge and experience with junior operators to help elevate the team's collective skill level
- Use a variety of manufacturing equipment to fabricate steel (industrial bends, plasma cutters, cut to length machines, etc.) as needed
- Set up and operate other key equipment in the fabrication department (Plasma table, Laser, Presses, brakes, rollers) as needed
- Arrange parts and staging of materials
- Propose potential quality or productivity enhancements
- Review of finished parts to ensure accuracy against drawings
- Report fabrication issues and assist in resolutions as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is preferred
- Moderate G-code competency required
- Moderate to advanced G-code and Mastercam comptency preferred
- Apprentice / Journeyperson Millwright would be considered an asset
- 2-5 years of CNC Machining experience is preferred
- Certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
