SSA Marine is seeking a Cargo Coordinator to join our Operations team. This full-time, temporary position is based at our office in North Vancouver and reports to the Manager- Woodpulp and Lumber.
The Position
The Cargo Coordinator manages customer products by receiving, tracking, and matching incoming cargo to vessel lineups and producing accurate loading documentation. They handle all shipment data and maintain clear, professional communication with customers and internal teams. As the primary liaison, they conduct onsite inspections using a company pickup truck, working closely with warehouse and loading crews in a safety‑critical industrial environment.
You will be part of a motivated and diverse team and will have a high degree of interaction with all employees throughout the organization.
Responsibilities & Activities
- Manage daily cargo coordination tasks, including entering vessel bookings, rail/truck advice, preparing loading documents, issuing tallies/books, and communicating with customers to confirm accurate lineups and cargo totals.
- Prepare container load plans, daily truck forecasts, and assign bins while coordinating truck receiving and communicating with dispatchers.
- Support operations by handling foreperson/longshore inquiries, creating job orders, assisting with non‑conformance photos, notifying customers of discrepancies, and preparing stencils.
- Provide broader departmental support such as holiday relief, weekend rail coordination coverage, assisting coworkers, maintaining filing, and attending ISO meetings.
- Deliver safety/security paperwork to vessels and perform required onsite tasks, including driving, climbing gangways, and engaging with vessel personnel in all weather conditions.
Qualifications & Skills
- Background or experience in related industries: marine, rail, warehousing, trade and transportation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and related tools.
- Able to communicate clearly - clear communication is essential for all parties to understand and agree, as the product and the operating costs are very high
- Working successfully with a unionized workforce
- Ability to work under pressure – often required, such as when there are deadlines for loading and cutoffs to establish crew sizes, which add pressure to the workload
- Excellent team collaboration skills.
