Make your mark while you grow your career! We are currently looking for a Mining Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Horizon Mine Engineering team. In this role, you will be given the opportunity to showcase your expertise by supporting the evaluation, development, and execution of mine and projects plans through collaboration with Canadian Natural Mine Operations, Geotechnical Engineering, Maintenance, Process Engineering and Mine Technical Services groups. Your contributions will help support the safe, reliable and cost-effective operations of a world-class mining facility, guided by Canadian Natural’s core value of safety.
- Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Horizon Oil Sands site
- Shift schedule: 4 x 3, 10-hour shifts (Monday - Thursday) *
- Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare mine, tailings, infrastructure project and capital plans to achieve Canadian Natural’s business objectives
- Develop and communicate detailed plans and reports to comply with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate on design issues with operations and management personnel to ensure plan effectiveness
- Develop cost and execution packages for tailings and mining projects
- Responsible for maintenance, operation and upkeep of relevant cost models
- Maintain orderly data, perform consistently accurate calculations, and use mine planning software to complete assigned tasks
What You Bring to the Role:
- Degree in Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering
- Registered or eligibility to register as an EIT with APEGA
- Previous experience in the oil sands industry, especially in tailings, is an asset
- Experience with mine planning software; Maptek Vulcan, Minebridge Muk3D, and Runge XACT/XPAC is an asset
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
