Purpose of Role: As a Naval Architecture Technologist, you’ll contribute to engineering and technical projects focused on testing, evaluation, and maintenance activities. Working under general supervision, you’ll help ensure the operational readiness of Canada’s naval assets while gaining hands-on experience and preparing detailed reports that inform critical decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting test and trials onboard a ship or submarine;
  • Conducting technical investigations and reviewing documentation on various systems, equipment, or component installed or to be installed onboard a RCN ship or submarine;
  • Performing validation, tests, simulations, integrations, or troubleshooting of new equipment, systems or components;
  • Preparing plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates and bill of materials in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings or other routine technical surveys or inspections;
  • Supporting other professionals in the execution of the work in a team environment;
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, able to meet project deadlines with minimal supervision;
  • Ensuring ongoing communication and interactions with customers, colleagues, and internal stakeholders;
  • Producing technical documentation or reports for review by immediate supervisor;
  • Complying with the requirements of the Integrated Management System (IMS); and
  • Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Completed a Naval Architectural Diploma program (3 years) combined with practical work experience;
  • Analytical – Capable of digesting and drawing conclusions from complex or diverse information, with the ability to research additional sources to complement existing data;
  • Project Management (if assigned own projects) – Capable of planning, coordinating and tracking tasks and resources;
  • Specifically, capable of reading and interpreting technical specifications and drawings, customer, industry and business publications, writing technical reports targeted at colleagues, senior management, or customers; and
  • Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.
