ABSA, the pressure equipment safety authority, is seeking an individual to join our main office in Edmonton as a Receptionist for an 18-month contract position, covering a maternity leave. ABSA is responsible for administration of pressure equipment safety services to the province of Alberta. This position plays a key role in providing for front-line customer service, communication, and customer payment processing and recording for our organization.
ABSA services include pressure equipment inspections, examinations and seminars, and design engineering reviews. As the receptionist you will be responsible for assessing customer inquiries and ensuring they get redirected to the right personnel or departments. In addition, you will need to manage a number of different tasks all at the same time. As the first point of contact for our customers, the Receptionist ensures that every customer is treated well.
Duties and responsibilities for this position include:
- Answering phone inquiries and redirecting calls to appropriate personnel
- Assisting customers with finding the right information for their inquiry.
- Ensuring mail and packages are received, stamped, and distributed.
- Preparing mail and courier pick-ups.
- Controlling building access by following visitor sign-in procedures.
- Processing various exam and renewal transactions.
- Record customer payment transactions in accounting software.
- Daily cash balancing and reconciliation.
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and attributes.
- A desire to provide customer service in friendly and timely manner, and to contribute to the success of their team.
- Proficiency in basic computer programs: email, word processing, spreadsheets.
- Experience processing payments and accounting transactions.
- The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing is essential.
- Customer service focus. The receptionist must be friendly, personable, and approachable.
Prior reception experience with a computer based phone programs and point of sale systems would be considered an asset.
This is an in-office position and candidates must be available to work from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. We are closed weekends and holidays.

ABSA (Alberta Boilers Safety Association) is the pressure equipment safety authority for Alberta. ABSA administers Alberta's pressure equipment safety programs under the Safety Codes Act, and has the authority to enforce pressure equipment safety as set out in the legislation.
ABSA's key activities include:
• reviewing, accepting, and registering pressure equipment designs
• reviewing, accepting, and registering construction procedures that relate to pressure equipment
• issuing certificate of inspection permits for pressure equipment before the equipment is placed into service
• ensuring that regular inspections of in-service pressure equipment are conducted
• keeping records for pressure equipment that has been registered for use, or manufactured, in Alberta
• examining, certifying, and registering Pressure Welders and Welding Examiners
• examining, certifying, and registering Power Engineers
• examining, certifying, and registering Pressure Equipment Inspectors
• investigating accidents or unsafe conditions that involve pressure equipment
• authorizing and monitoring, through quality management systems, organizations that have been permitted to conduct some of the activities subject to the Regulations
• conducting safety education and training.
