Now Hiring: Geographic Information Systems Architect (#25-86)

Parkland County has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Geographic Information Systems Architect position in the Technology & Digital Services department. Reporting to the Manager, Business Value Delivery, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Architect supervises a team of GIS professionals, both contracted and internal and is responsible for the overall design, development, implementation, and management of the County’s GIS environment, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and aligned with organizational goals. This position provides strategic direction for the County’s GIS infrastructure, applications, and spatial data, overseeing the architecture, integration, and governance of geospatial systems. This position is responsible for the County’s spatial ecosystem, ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and efficiency of spatial data repositories and enterprise databases that enable critical decision-making and analysis. This position develops enhancements of GIS applications, integrations, and workflows, leveraging emerging technologies to maximize value and usability. As a subject matter expert, this position provides specialized technical guidance to internal and external partners, ensuring GIS solutions align with County priorities and industry best practices. This position has a key role in governance, risk management, and policy development, optimizing GIS investments and ensuring compliance with security and operational standards. Additionally, the role works as part of a team of technical experts to capture business needs, identify opportunities, and develop solutions that drive business value.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • GISP and/or ESRI certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of advanced expertise in ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Data Store, and ArcGIS Online configuration, maintenance, and security.
  • Experience in supervising and providing leadership and guidance to GIS professionals, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Experience overseeing the development, deployment, and maintenance of GIS applications, web maps, and dashboards.
  • Strong understanding of data accuracy, quality control, metadata management, access control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience designing and managing GIS environments in on-premise, cloud (Azure, AWS), and hybrid infrastructures.
  • Experience integrating GIS with enterprise IT systems such as ERP, CRM, Asset Management, and BI platforms.
  • Expertise in FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) and SQL-based ETL processes to automate data workflows.
  • Experience with raster, aerial, and LiDAR data processing, storage, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in ESRI licensing models, vendor management, and budgeting for GIS software solutions.
  • Possession of a valid class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

The total rewards package for this position includes:

A starting annual salary of $109,500 to $123,200, with a maximum earning potential for this pay range of $138,500, based on a 35-hour work week and option to join the Earned Day Off Program.
