The Opportunity
Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is looking for a Food and Beverage Manager, Concessions, to lead, organize and oversee all concession operations at Banff Centre, ensuring high-volume food and beverage service is delivered smoothly, safely and profitably during events. This position also develops and implements forward-thinking concession strategies that drive revenue growth, strengthen profitability, and improve service delivery. A key focus is creating a welcoming, inclusive, and high-quality experience for guests across performances, exhibitions, festivals, and special events.
This position is responsible for leading and optimizing all food, beverage, and retail concession operations at Banff Centre, with the goal of maximizing earned revenue while enhancing the overall guest and participant experience. This role combines strong business and financial acumen to ensure concession operations are financially sustainable and operationally excellent, while supporting Banff Centre’s values, brand, and reputation as a leading arts and creativity institution.
Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Food and Beverage, below are some key accountabilities:
Operations
- Oversee day-to-day concession operations across outlets, venues and events, ensuring consistency, efficiency and quality
- Establish and maintain operational standards for food safety, service delivery, inventory control and cashiering
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, liquor licensing and regulatory requirements
- Maintain operational flow during peak attendance periods and mitigate service bottlenecks
- Collaborate with facilities, programming, front and back of house teams to align concession operations with event schedules and audience flow
- Provide managerial coverage across all Food and Beverage operations as required, including all outlets and catered functions
- Develop and create standardized training for servers and bartenders working in concessions
- Ensure that schedules reflect operational needs for adequate staffing levels
Revenue Strategy and Financial Performance
- Develop and implement concession strategies that increase net revenue, average per person spend and overall profitability
- Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts and financial performance reports
- Analyze sales trends, attendance patterns and customer preferences to inform pricing, product mix and promotional strategies
- Identify new revenue opportunities, including pop-ups, themed offerings, premium experiences and partnerships
- Monitor market trends, customer needs and competitive landscape to inform strategy
Guest Experience and Brand Alignment
- Ensure concession offerings complement the organizations artistic programming, audience demographics and brand identity
- Work in partnership with the culinary team to create innovative and inclusive menu options that reflect community, accessibility and sustainability considerations
- Address patron feedback and continuously improve service quality and customer satisfaction
Human Resources, Team Building and Interdivisional Cooperation
- Foster an internal culture that maintains the highest standards for customer services, excellence of staff, participant and guest experience as well as fiscal, operational and organizational integrity
- Recruit, hire and mentor staff, assigning work and measuring their performance in relation to the strategic standards of excellence and goals
- Works closely with the Human Resources team to ensure policies, procedures, contractual, legislative and work culture expectations are met
Qualification and Educational Requirements
- Post-secondary education in business, hospitality management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 3 years' of experience in concessions, hospitality, food and beverage or retail operations, preferably in cultural, entertainment or event-based environments
- Demonstrated success in driving earned revenue and managing multi-stream operations
- Strong financial acument, including; budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis
- Demonstrated supervisory or management experience in high-pressure, high-volume environments, ensuring operations efficiency and sustained service quality
- Strong communication, organizational and problem solving skills
- Strong understanding of cash handling, POS systems and basic financial tracking
- Food Safety Certification required as well as Alberta ProServe certification
Special Requirements
- Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
- This position will be required to have emergency first aid; training will be provided.
Employment Terms & Benefits
- In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a permanent, full-time position, subject to a 6 month probation period working 40 hours per week.
- The salary for this position is $51,731 to $73,983 based on experience.
- The successful candidate will enjoy twenty paid vacation days and four personal days annually, extended medical and dental benefits, and participation in an employer-matched pension plan.
