Student Connect Centre Advisor
Position Summary
The Student Connect Centre is seeking applications for a term-certain full-time Advisor to join their team.
The Student Connect Centre serves as a single location for students to access academic, award, and funding information. This position is a generalist advisor on awards, funding, and academic advising information.
This position’s Student Connect Centre Advisor’s primary responsibility is to provide front line support and service to assist both current and prospective students in making informed decisions concerning their educational goals. The Student Connect Centre Advisor is responsible for academic advising of all Open Studies and Academic Upgrading students.
The position is part of a collaborative team that builds and improves the processes that attract learners to RDC and supports them as they move from prospective student to graduate.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Student Connect Centre Advisor include:
Academic Advising
- Deliver academic advising regarding RDP programs to current and prospective students through drop-in, appointments, online advising, and email.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of admission criteria, transferability, and program completion requirements.
- Responsible for academic advising for all Open Studies and Academic Upgrading students.
- Educate students about registration processes and use of online services.
- Assist students by answering questions about admission and registration processes and forms.
- Lead registration workshops as necessary.
- Provide backup advising support for the SCC Program Liaisons during peak periods.
- Assess and make recommendations based on Academic Upgrading student placements by registering them in appropriate grade levels.
- Provide accurate information related to prior learning pathways to prospective students. Inform students of academic consequences including: Adding/Dropping classes, Withdrawing, and Academic Standing.
- Lead intake advising for student athletes.
- Communicate to the Associate Registrar, Student Services of any emerging issues as necessary.
- Provide support for all recruitment initiatives as needed including presentations, tours, and booth events as needed.
Funding and Awards
- Advise students and refer them to the appropriate type of funding or awards.
- Guide students through the application process for all types of funding including Alberta Student Aid, RDP bursaries and scholarships, Foundational Learning Assistance, and other funding supports.
- Advise students on the process for submitting missing information and funding appeals.
- Manage the Emergency Food Bank process through assessing student situations during intakes.
- Provide instructions for processing funding and award disbursements.
- Advise students on the status of their funding or award applications.
- Guide students through the tuition payment process, tuition payment plans, and payment options.
- Advise students on interest free status eligibility and guide students through the process of applying for interest free status.
- Provide information on student loan repayment and repayment assistance programs.
- Advise students of consequences of academic decisions as related to funding and awards.
- Sign government forms related to funding or awards (authorized signing official). Deliver Funding and Awards workshops as required.
Academic Advising and Funding Administration

Complete Confirmation of Enrolment requests for unfunded, full-time, and part-time students.

Provide administration of Foundational Learning Assistance funding in government systems.

Complete interest free status requests as required. Assess Academic Upgrading testing results.

Provide assistance with Emergency Funding supports as necessary including transit passes, emergency food hampers, and Emergency Bursaries.

Update the student information system such as BANNER as needed.
Required Qualifications
-
Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of University in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent.

Experience in the post-secondary sector

One to two years’ experience in a similar role

Superior communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to present information clearly and concisely

Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills

Must be a team player and able to work independently

Superior organization and planning skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a high-volume work environment
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with a student information system such as Banner is an asset.

Student advising experience is an asset

$60,645 to 70,946 Annually

Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including extended health and dental care through Blue Cross, access to a health spending account, pension plan, Employee & Family Assistance Program, generous vacation allotments, credit tuition waivers and opportunities for professional development funding. Additional time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays.
Eligibility to access the above mentioned benefits is dependent upon the AUPE Collective Agreement and related RDP policies.
