Description JOB DESCRIPTION The Scientific Writer will play an integral role in advancing the success and sustainability of the organization’s academic plan inclusive of the research enterprise. The incumbent is responsible for the production of high quality written scientific documents for research grant applications, research protocols, white papers, peer-reviewed abstract and publications. The incumbent builds capacity for the development of scientific writing skills amongst individuals, teams and the organization that is of the highest quality and relevance to patients, staff and stakeholders and is congruent with the approved organizational priorities.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Consults with Library users and conducts thorough literature searches using electronic citation databases and Library resources;
- Produces annotated bibliographies and other synthesized resources to Library users;
- Assists staff and other Library users to utilize resources in the Library;
- Provides information, reference support and assistance with research projects;
- Arranges interlibrary loans for books and articles not owned by the Library, and completes interlibrary loan requests from other libraries;
- Performs core library services such as cataloguing according to the National Library of Medicine and Library of Congress classification standards and circulation processes;
- Maintains online Library catalogue;
- Prepares statistical supports of usage of Library resources and functions;
- Makes recommendations for the acquisition and renewal of licenses/subscriptions and for enhancements of the Library collection;
- Prepares and delivers education sessions to enhance information research skills and prepares and disseminates online/electronic training materials and tools;
- Proactively disseminates new information to advance knowledge in clinical, research and administrative areas and prepares communications materials for distribution on various internal communications formats;
- Provides orientation to new staff and supervises student field-placements as appropriate;
- Participates on Hospital committees and councils;
- Maintains memberships with health library organizations;
- Recognizes and reports patient, staff and environment safety issues and identifies and implements preventative and corrective actions, within the scope of the position;
- Preforms other duties as needed.
Requirements
- Accredited Master's degree in library/information sciences or an acceptable equivalent required;
- Previous experience working in a health sciences library and knowledge of mental health terminology and practices preferred;
- Experience supporting research information requests and knowledge/experience in systematic literature searches and asset.
- Familiarity with biomedical databases such as Ebsco and other electronic health information resources;
- Advanced computer skills and experience with Docline;
- Capacity to develop effective relationships across professions;
- Initiative, accountability, creativity and outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills;
- An enthusiastic, energetic and engaging style that inspires and motivates others;
- Time management skills including planning, organizing and prioritizing work;
- Knowledge of relevant legislation;
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and improvement of professional knowledge and skills;
- Excellent problem-solving skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard.
