The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for an Assistant to the Director. This position will be providing administrative assistance to the Director, including providing confidential secretarial support such as managing schedules, meetings, arrange travel, establish, and maintain appropriate files, employee payroll, process vacation reports and prepare and process work orders and requisitions. The Assistant to the Director will also be responsible for coordinating events, providing human resources, budget and operations support.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED FOR INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).

  • Completion of a formal training program in a related field is required.
  • Must have a valid class 5 Driver's License and access to reliable vehicle.
  • Minimum of four years directly related experience is required.
  • Experience within a post-secondary institution advancing Indigenous education is required.
  • Experience in coordinating projects and events and working collaboratively with others is required.
  • Previous administrative experience in an academic setting is preferred.
  • Experience in collaborating with Indigenous communities and educational institutions is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of university policies and procedures, understanding of the relationship between various units and decision-making bodies are strongly preferred.
  • Accounting, writing, and editorial experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with Indigenous organization is preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience, knowledge, and competency with Indigenous cultures, history and community protocols is required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills required.
  • Strong time management skills required.
  • Proficient in multi-tasking to meet multiple deadlines required.
  • High degree of competency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, online meeting software, and excel spreadsheets required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication are required.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions required.
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to anticipate and resolve problems required.
  • Superior ability to prioritize tasks required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

Pay: $26.62-$36.41 per hour
