DIRECT REPORTS: Product and Innovation Specialists

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Manager, Residential Products at Red River Mutual leads a team responsible for the maintenance, enhancement, development, and implementation of Residential Lines insurance products. This includes creating and updating product roadmaps, tracking performance, optimizing products, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards. The role involves strategic product planning, collaboration with various departments, and managing relationships with stakeholders to support the company's growth, innovation, and underwriting profitability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

Product Management

  • Develop and maintain a product roadmap aligned with company goals and customer segments.

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement within the product portfolio.

  • Create long-term strategies for product development and market positioning.

  • Oversee the product portfolio to ensure alignment with company goals and customer needs.

  • Track and analyze product performance using sales data, customer feedback, and market trends.

  • Adjust products to improve profitability and customer satisfaction.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and reinsurance contracts.

  • Conduct market research to identify customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape.

  • Develop new product ideas and features based on research findings.

  • Define product features and benefits and participate in pricing strategies.

  • Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, sales, and IT teams to ensure product feasibility and compliance.

  • Manage resources and budgets for product development projects.

  • Collaborate with marketing teams on product launch strategies and communication plans.

  • Provide training and support to sales, underwriters, and broker teams for successful product rollout.

Corporate Underwriting

  • Establish and train on risk acceptance criteria aligned with market trends, regulations, and profitability goals.

  • Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines and policies, including periodic data-driven reviews.

  • Ensure consistency and compliance in underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures across regions.

  • Implement strategic initiatives to improve underwriting processes and outcomes, partnering with IT for new technologies.

  • Maintain and explore contracts with underwriting tool and BMS system providers.

  • Use data analytics to assess risk, identify trends, and make informed decisions.

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.

  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and ensure alignment and compliance.

  • Perform regular reviews of underwriting files for compliance and improvement.

  • Train underwriters on best practices, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Policy Centre Product Manager

  • Establish and maintain a vision and product roadmap aligned with company goals.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements to identify and implement innovative features.

  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog, refining it based on feedback and market needs.

  • Track and optimize PolicyCenter performance, focusing on user adoption, system efficiency, and business impact.

  • Develop and deliver training programs, providing ongoing support to users and stakeholders.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure product and underwriting success.
  • Manage relationships with external partners for smooth operations.
  • Prepare the organization for product, underwriting, and PolicyCenter changes, managing adoption and resistance.
  • Gather and integrate stakeholder feedback to improve products and underwriting.
  • Act as a liaison between business units and technical teams for clear communication of changes and goals.

Leadership:

  • To motivate, coach and hold accountable employees under your direction in the business.
  • Administer timely performance reviews, assessing needs for education, rewards and setting direction.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • College or Bachelor’s degree in Business
  • CIP, FCIP, CRM or related insurance certification preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive underwriting experience (Residential)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience directly leading people and teams.
  • Experienced Mentorship and Professional development skills.
  • Deep knowledge of Residential underwriting.
  • Experience with a wide variety of assignments around operational workflow including the GuideWire Insurance Suite systems is an asset.
  • Exceptional communication skills through a variety of mediums.
  • Superior analytical, problem solving, research & communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and organization.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines across a variety of stakeholders to meet targets and deliverable dates.

  • Experience with corporate governance, compliance, and controls management, including processes and systems.
  • Enterprise Risk Management experience is considered an asset.
