NATURE & SCOPE
To contribute to the well-being of YMCA members by leading them through safe and productive exercises in aquafit classes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Provide excellence in the quality of instruction of Aquafit classes at the YMCA.
-
Generate positive experiences for each individual that you meet through excellence in customer service, positivity and excitement, and relationship building opportunities.
-
Create an environment that fosters open communication with members, staff and volunteers.
-
Provide a safe environment that fosters a sense of fun and enthusiastic atmosphere.
-
Required to arrive to classes at least ten minutes before classes.
-
Arrive to class prepared to teach an appropriate fitness class that matches the class description, available equipment and participant needs.
-
Provide high and low options in order to have individuals at all levels participate in the class.
-
Set up/clean up any necessary equipment for the class.
-
Educate and motivate Group participants following YMCA Canada fitness principals.
-
Demonstrate and role model proper fitness form and technique.
-
Promote YMCA Group Fitness programs to individuals who are not currently engaged in YMCA Group Fitness offerings.
-
Act as a positive YMCA ambassador in the branch and community.
-
Maintain all required qualifications, certifications and up to date knowledge of group fitness trends.
-
Attend all staff meetings and ongoing education opportunities.
-
Understand and support YMCA philanthropic initiatives and events.
-
Share appropriate information with class participants about other YMCA programs and services.
-
Monitor commitment to service excellence by role modelling and maintaining Y WAY standards.
-
Demonstrate flexibility, an ability to adapt to situations as they arise, and support with class coverage when required.
-
Work as part of a team to help members achieve their health and fitness goals and retain them as YMCA members.

Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Current and relevant Aquafit Instructor certification.
-
Minimum 1-year practical experience delivering Aquafit based classes preferred.
-
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, or related field is an asset.
-
Current Standard First Aid/CPR-(C) certification from an approved agency.
-
Upon hiring, applicants 18 years of age and older must submit a clear and satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) issued for the YMCA of Niagara.
