The Position The Finance Manager, Business Unit Finance is a key financial advisor and strategic business partner to the business unit commercial team. The incumbent will work closely with the commercial leadership team to lead business performance reviews and provide financial expertise to guide business decisions and brand strategy. This role will help identify opportunities for improvement in financial processes and tools to support business needs and drive efficiencies. This role will manage 1 Senior Financial Analyst and reports directly to the Commercial Finance Director.
The Successful Candidate Will
- Act as a strategic partner to the Commercial Business Unit with financial leadership, support and recommendations that align with the strategic objectives of the portfolio.
- Engage as an influential cross-functional partner in key commercial projects and initiatives to provide financial insights and business decisions
- Responsible for leading the reporting and analysis of monthly/quarterly financial results through the new Monthly Business Review (MBR) process, providing insights into variances to Plan, Prior Year and latest forecast
- Provide financial thought leadership and counsel on large scale business model transformation projects and assessments to optimize portfolio performance
- Partner with Revenue Growth & Customer Strategic Planning to evaluate product-price architecture (PPA) strategies to drive sustainable growth opportunities
- Work with business unit team to identify opportunities to improve ROI across revenue/investment levers (list price increase, portfolio mix, ECOM, marketing spend)
- Set direction for the Business Unit Finance team and support individual/team growth and development
- Identify opportunities to streamline and simplify processes to drive efficient execution
- Develop tools and capabilities to enhance financial performance analysis and acumen
- Standardize brand performance management and reporting with focus on insights, drivers, and actions
- Improve awareness of brand/portfolio mix to identify profitable growth opportunities
- Review new project brand P&L’s, ensuring all costs have been captured accurately
- Oversee the preparation/analysis/monitoring of new product development projects ensuring alignment with portfolio strategy
- Lead the marketing month end close process, analyzing financial information for entry to the general ledger
- Responsible for the monthly forecast and annual budget process for business unit marketing expenses
- Provide support in various business unit initiatives, cost saving projects and any other ad hoc projects as requested
- Develop Finance partnerships across Canada, US, and International organizations to share best practices
- Ensures appropriate Internal Controls are in place and functioning effectively as they impact the accuracy of Financial Reporting for Marketing
The Ideal Candidate Has
- 3-5+ years of progressive finance leadership experience
- Experience in CPG or adjacent industry
- Possess a Finance designation (MBA and/or CPA)
- Experience leading and developing direct reports
- Ability to work with complex concepts, analyze data, draw conclusions, make recommendations while using judgment, experience and industry knowledge
- Ability to show initiative and influence decisions with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures and forecasting practices
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and set priorities
- Excellent inter-personal skills, ability to build business partnerships, strong communication skills
- Advanced MS Excel and modelling skills; PowerBI experience an asset
