The purpose of the role

Under the responsibility of the Director of Finance, the incumbent is responsible for the continuous improvement of activities and the engagement of staff. They ensure the integrity, rigor, and compliance with applicable standards in the accounting practices used. They make recommendations considering the best interests of the company regarding the business processes employed and the results achieved.

Key responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for the accounting process.
  • Supervise the accounting team, including recruiting, evaluating, guiding, and motivating staff.
  • Direct the production and follow-up of financial reports, management reports, and reports to various financial institutions.
  • Prepare and design financial analyses as well as performance analyses, providing feedback to company managers.
  • Highlight relevant variances between budget and actual results, explain them, and make recommendations for performance improvement.
  • Oversee weekly cash management.
  • Ensure the development and adherence to internal controls within the company.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in the preparation of tax returns and monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee the entire preparation of the annual audit file; prepare certain more complex sections and act as the main contact with external auditors.
  • Supervise the preparation of the annual budget for all companies in the group, ensuring deadlines are met with the involved managers.
  • Ensure that all companies in the group comply with various legislations related to the administrative aspects of business. Ensure that tax payments are made according to requirements and within deadlines set by different organizations.
  • Assume responsibility for government audits.

Your profile

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Accountant designation is an asset.
  • Five to ten years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in retail (an asset).
  • Bilingualism is essential, both written and oral (The individual will need to communicate with external suppliers).
