What You Will Work On
Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor. To assess, plan, facilitate and evaluate recreation programs that meet the resident’s recreational needs, interests and expectations.

How You’ll Create Impact
- Complete comprehensive resident recreation assessments, computerized documentation and other records, as required.
- Support residents’ requests and needs to allow them to maintain a level of independence and participate in activities of their choice.
- Support family, volunteer, student and community involvement.
What Are Your Skills and Experience
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Diploma/Certificate in Recreation and Leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related field from a community college or university. Three years minimum previous experience in recreation programming with seniors with cognitive decline and /or persons with disabilities is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Well-developed assessment skills and an understanding of each resident’s physical and cognitive challenges.
- Must have experience planning, facilitating and evaluating recreation programs for seniors with cognitive impairment and other disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of memory-related illnesses such as Alzheimer Disease and other types of dementia.
- Must be willing to work some evening and weekend hours.
- Proficient in Word Perfect, Excel, PCC, etc.
- Intermediate knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Infection Control and the Gentle Persuasion approach. GPA Training is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
- Takes responsibility to work independently, make decisions and take initiative with minimal intervention.
- Able to prioritize work responsibilities while maintaining a high degree of efficiency.
- Cooperative and flexible team player, able to build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Able to meet the expected physical stresses of recreational programs with elderly people (i.e., walking, bending, lifting, pushing, wheelchairs, room set-up, etc.).
- Exercise confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the Organization.
- Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
