Key Responsibilities:
Machining & Technical Operations
- Set up and operate CNC lathe machines, both equipped with multi-tool heads, including one with a subspindle, for high-volume repetitive jobs (e.g., coupons) and complex, low-volume 3D printed components
- Operate additional CNC equipment, including 3-axis and 5-axis milling machines as required
- Maintain tight tolerances (under 0.001") and ensure consistent part quality using probing cycles and in-process verification techniques
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot G-code programs; collaborate with CNC programmers to optimize machining strategies
- Perform basic maintenance and upkeep on CNC lathes and other machining equipment
Quality & Compliance
- Document and maintain traceability for all machined parts, including material certifications, inspection reports, and process logs
- Ensure compliance with aerospace-specific tolerances and surface finish requirements, including deburring and final inspection
- Complete and submit all required documentation related to production and quality in a timely manner
- Adhere to all safety protocols and quality system procedures (e.g., AS9100)
Collaboration & Support
- Work with CNC programmers and cross-functional teams (Additive Applications, Engineering, Quality, Planning) to troubleshoot and improve production efficiency
- Identify and resolve machining issues quickly to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency
- Support other departments as needed based on operational demands
Continuous Improvement
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including tooling optimization, cycle time reduction, and scrap minimization
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conforming parts
Requirements:
Technical Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in CNC machining, including setup and operation of precision 3-axis and 5-axis machines (Fanuc controller experience preferred)
- Strong experience with CNC lathe operation, including subspindle and multi-tool head setups
- Proven ability to work with tight tolerances and complex geometries, including 3D printed parts
- Proficient in blueprint reading, G-code interpretation, and GD&T
- Experience with probing cycles and in-process inspection methods
- Basic maintenance skills for CNC lathes and milling machines
- Wire EDM and sinker EDM experience considered a strong asset
- CNC programming knowledge is an asset
- Experience with advanced inspection tools (e.g., CMM, optical comparators) is a strong asset
Industry & Material Knowledge
- Experience in aerospace machining or other high-precision industries (e.g., medical, defense)
- Familiarity with AS9100 or NADCAP standards and aerospace documentation practices consider an asset
- Experience with high-performance materials such as titanium, Inconel, or aerospace-grade aluminum alloys
- Strong understanding of thermal effects, tool wear, and material behavior during machining
Education & Soft Skills
- College diploma or engineering degree in a related field is an asset
- Effective problem-solving, time management, and communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic team environment
- Must be eligible to obtain security clearance
