The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert is recruiting individuals to join our Recreation and Parks department as a Recreation Leader 3 – Learn to Skate Instructors.

Reporting to a Recreation Program Coordinator, this position will be responsible for delivering both parented and unparented recreational skating programs to children aged 3 to 8 years old.

The Learn to Skate program consists of 4 progressive levels of skating skills and activities over 10 weeks from late October to December.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate lesson plans in a fun an engaging environment.
  • Preparing and cleaning up assigned spaces.
  • Providing exceptional customer service.
  • Greeting, supervising, interacting with, and supporting participants.
  • Instructing skill development.
  • Interacting with parents and caregivers at the start and end of participants’ stays.
  • Adhering to Health & Safety legislation, guidelines, and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Confident skating skills is a must.
  • Experience (preferably at least 2 years) planning and developing recreation skating programs.
  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Ideally candidates will hold a National Coaching Certification in figure skating, hockey, or as a skating instructor.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C with AED certification is required.

Hours of Work

  • Mondays from 9:30-12:00 pm (Indoors at Kinex Arena)
  • Saturdays from 10:00-2:00 pm (Indoors at Jarome Iginla Arena)

The wage ranges from $21.43 – $26.10 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
