As an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), you'll join a passionate, multidisciplinary team working to empower families and support preschool-aged children with diagnosed disabilities — directly in their community settings. About Community Options & the CPE Program
Community Options carries out programs that provide children with enriching early learning experiences, positively impacting their lifelong learning, behavior, health, and quality of life. We empower families through inclusive programming and accessible community supports.
Our Community Preschool Education (CPE) program is a PUF provider of early intervention and therapy services. We support inclusive learning in preschools and childcare centers across Edmonton. Our multidisciplinary team includes Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Coordinating Teachers, Educational Assistants, Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs), and Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants (SLPAs).
Our Mission: Community Options supports the diverse needs of children and families through inclusive early childhood education programs and community initiatives.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
-
Work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary classroom team (including the SLP and Coordinating Teacher) to provide direct and indirect speech and language therapy in an inclusive manner targeting goals in an IPP.

Model and implement communication strategies throughout daily routines at preschools, daycares, and homes, with the capacity to conduct virtual sessions as needed.

Assist the SLP and Coordinating Teacher with tasks such as setting up files, creating and maintaining materials, and administering probes.

Document and provide children’s progress to team members, providing timely written summaries of services delivered.

Meet regularly with the SLP to discuss strategies and monitor progress.

Participate in agency and community endeavors, along with other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
-
Diploma as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (equivalencies of education and experience will be considered).
-
Experience with preschool-aged children (3–5 years) and pediatric motor speech disorders (apraxia, dysarthria, speech motor delay) is an asset.

A strong belief in inclusive education, diversity, and equity—possessing empathy, curiosity, a flexible mindset, and a good sense of humor.
-
Enthusiastic and engaging communication style, with the ability to motivate preschoolers both in person and online.
-
Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work well under minimal supervision.

Physical ability to engage with young children (frequent kneeling, squatting, repetitive movements, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs), along with comfort sitting for prolonged periods during office work.
SAFETY & LOGISTICS
-
Valid Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Intervention Check (dated within 6 months of hire).

Valid Driver’s License, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation for required travel within the Capital Region (site-to-site travel is reimbursed).

Current certification in Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR (or Standard First Aid and CPR).

Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend shifts for fundraising events, professional development, or staff meetings.

About Community Options - A Society for Children and Families
Every child deserves a great start. At Community Options, we do just that by providing quality childcare and inclusive supports to children and their families within the greater Edmonton area. Community Options believes in offering children and families an inclusive experience to develop their full potential within in their community, regardless of their abilities, while positively impacting lifelong learning and enriching quality of life. For over 40 years, we have provided services in the Edmonton and surrounding area, and we truly believe that the programs we provide positively impact the future of the children and their families. Community Options is a Society that consists of five branches. Each works toward supporting the diverse needs of children and families through inclusive early childhood education and community initiatives. These branches are: our Early Learning and Childcare Centre, Out of School Care, Preschool, Family and Community Support and Community Preschool Education Program, we make a positive impact on over 280 families.
The largest branch within our society is our Community Preschool Education Program, which is currently supporting 180 children and families, within Edmonton and surrounding area. Using a multi-disciplinary team, the aim of our Community Preschool Education Program, is to promote maximum skill development of children with diagnosed special needs, within their community setting, whether it be a preschool or a daycare of the parent’s choosing.
Community Options also believes in giving back to the community. Our community initiatives, such as our Annual Festive Meal, neighborhood table, free family movie nights, and free tax preparation clinics for low income families within the Inglewood community, help build on our belief that strong communities build strong families. With parent and community involvement, the Society ensures that its programs are responding to the unique needs and circumstances of our children and families by providing flexible and meaningful services.
