Occupational therapists are tasked with assessing and treating patients to help them attain their highest level of functional independence. They implement goal-oriented, client-centered treatment plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Additionally, they coordinate discharge plans with the team and relevant community resources. Occupational therapists also actively participate in health promotion and educational activities to support overall well-being.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Master’s of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy or in a relevant field.
  • Current certificate of competence as a Registered Occupational Therapist with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • A minimum of three (3) years recent and relevant clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with the geriatric population.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and abilities to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Desire to work with the elderly population; gerontology experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team and community partners
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario standards of practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning in occupational therapy
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
