About the role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their Calgary region. Reporting to the Regional Controller and working within a performance-oriented culture, the Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the consistent and accurate implementation of financial and accounting policies. This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of financial reporting by ensuring all reports are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To
- Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, GL closings, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP
- Generate monthly financial reports for the Regional Controller and management
- Support budgeting, profit planning, cash flow forecasting, and strategic planning
- Analyze financial and operational results; report variances to the Regional Controller
- Prepare internal financial statements in compliance with ASPE
- Coordinate with external auditors during year-end audits and improve procedures
- Compile year-end tax documentation for Corporate office
- Research accounting policies and assess impacts on internal reporting
Your strengths include:
- Bachelor’s degree and CPA designation (equivalent experience may be considered)
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within the real estate/land development industry;
- Thorough and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of GAAP/ASPE, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, and tax;
- Experience working with ERP systems, ideally with JD Edwards/Oracle
