About the role
The HSE Advisor will partner closely with local operations management and employees to foster a strong culture of health and safety. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, training, and maintaining HSE processes, policies, procedures, and programs that ensure employee well-being and compliance with all legislative requirements.
As a key member of the HSE team, the HSE Advisor will primarily support our Alberta operations while also providing guidance and assistance to our Abbotsford, BC branch.
Responsibilities
- Develop strong interpersonal relationships with stakeholders to ensure alignment of strategies that influence cultural change, with a focus on awareness, risk assessment, emergency preparedness, compliance and governance of Health and Safety matters.
- Lead the COR certification process and implementation.
- Assist in the review, development and implementation in robust strategies, policies and procedures related to Health & Safety.
- Support and provide guidance to the joint Health and Safety committees.
- Research, remain current and advise/train the business accordingly on legislative Health and Safety requirements.
- Oversee all aspects of the sites injury management program.
- Assists the maintenance and implementation of all written environmental health and safety standard operating procedures and work instructions for the Safety Management System.
- Review and document Near Misses, Incidents, and safety action items.
- Assist in performing audits of each written program.-Complete and track all items on the various Environmental Health and Safety reports and systems.
- Facilitate / coordinate training, as needed, on environmental health and safety with the managers/supervisors for all employees.
- Visit and monitor LCA activities on customer sites
- Assist in record keeping.
- Assist in special duties and projects, as required.
Competencies
- At least 5 years of HSE experience in a similar industry.
- Must have COR certification.
- Diploma or degree in HSE is required.
- Must be able to travel 25 - 50% of the time to our Western Canada branches.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Building Codes and applicable Provincial Standards/Regulations
- Technologically savvy with proficient use of Microsoft Office products and experience with databases and document tracking.
- Self-motivated with a flexible and collaborative work style.
