About the role
Founded in 1954, Community Living Central York is a non-profit, charitable organization which provides support to people who have an intellectual disability. The organization is under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of people who receive support, family members and other members of the community.
In 2024, Community Living Central York was the recipient of the Not-For-Profit of the year at the Central York Chamber of Commerce Business Award, Community Leadership Award and the (ODEN) Disability Employment Service Award for Outstanding Employment Service Provider.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
To support people with diverse abilities to achieve their personal goals, as they relate to work and alternative options. Facilitate relationships, skills and roles which promote their effective participation in the typical and valued life of the community.
POSITION (Classification): SUPPORT WORKER
FULL TIME POSITION – Dorchester
REPORTING TO: Community Living Supports Manager
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week (7:00am – 2:30pm)
SUNDAY_ THURSDAY
HOURLY RATE RANGE: $27.50-$29.19
QUALIFICATIONS:
- DSW or equivalent, preferably with a minimum of two years experience working with people who have an intellectual disability
- Ability to support behavioural needs and protocols
- Previous experience supporting people who have mental health diagnosis and dealing with high anxiety situations
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to follow and create Support Plans
- Ability to relate to the specific support needs of the people supported at said location
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills including written and verbal
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and some experience scheduling
- Current First Aid, CPR and Non-violent Crisis Intervention certificates
- Proven use of CPI strategies including verbal de-escalation
- Training in dispensing medications
- Valid driver’s licence, insurance and reliable vehicle
- Commitment to providing supports to people in accordance with Social Role Valorization
- Vulnerable Sector Screening
