Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Public Health Area and Care Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a key member of the Vaccination Services Team and functions as a supportive role for the School Team and Well Child Team. In keeping with Alberta Health Services (AHS) mission to provide patient focused quality health services, this team provides vaccination services to children in schools, community settings and at the Community Health Centre. The LPN works with the Registered Nurses and Vaccination Coordinator to plan, implement and evaluate the School Vaccination Services. LPNs may also work to implement and evaluate vaccine programs for adults and seniors such as influenza and pneumococcal. LPN responsibilities include preparation of records for school-aged children and delivery of vaccinations in the community environment. When caring for clients and working within the team the LPN aligns with the AHS values. This position requires the candidate to be able to work in a fast paced noisy environment with extended periods of standing, sitting and repetitive motions at various times through the day.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and PCA policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

LPN immunization certificate required if graduated before June 2022 or from another jurisdiction. Lift/carry supplies up to a minimum of 30 lbs. Ability to bend, twist, kneel and respond safely and quickly to a variety of emergency situations. Independently perform the skills of a certified BLS provider. Sit, stand for a minimum of 30 min. Ability to raise arms to shoulder height, in a repetitive movement for immunization. Work within outreach sites that have no consistent ergonomic setup. Minimum 6 months previous Immunization experience within past 3 years. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse clients from various cultures, ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. Proficient computer and keyboarding skills and ability to conduct contemporaneous electronic documentation at the point of care. Detail orientated strong organizational skills and time management. Demonstrated initiative and strong communication skills. Ability to work as a team player within a multidisciplinary team. Self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgment. Commitment to quality improvement and safety. Critical thinking and decision-making skills. Ability to attend all orientation shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful completion of the Calgary Zone School LPN orientation and school vaccination experience in the last year. At least 3 months recent experience with the roles and responsibilities associated with a regular school LPN role. Knowledge of Connect Care clinical information system. Recent experience working with children Active participation in professional development opportunities and community engagement.
