Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

The Instructor will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering MARI 3603: Practical Aquaculture during the Winter 2026 term. The course provides students with aquaculture practical experience. The laboratories involve finfish, shellfish and live feed, and help students acquire skills useful for conducting experiments with aquatic animals (e.g. marking, measuring, anaesthesia, etc.). Students collect real data and learn to conduct exploratory graphical and statistical analyses.

The Instructor’s responsibilities include preparing and providing the lectures and labs, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports, Brightspace administration, handling student issues, submitting grades, hiring/supervising TA’s, communication with technicians and Aquatron staff, etc. In addition, The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates preparing and marking. Due to course requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person, or out on field trips if appropriate. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

The applicants will have an advanced degree in biology in a related discipline. Previous, recent teaching experience in the subject matter would be a definite asset. First time applicants must provide the names of two referees.
