About the role

The Atlantic College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional fundraiser to join our team. This position would be primarily responsible for engaging with the local community and alumni located in Halifax and surrounding areas within Nova Scotia, as well as securing industry support and major gifts in support of the Atlantic Veterinary College. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated relationship builder with a track record in fundraising, strong communication skills, a willingness to travel, and a passion for making a meaningful impact on the Atlantic College of Veterinary Medicine.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the AVC leadership and UPEI Department of Advancement and Alumni Engagement to develop and implement effective strategies aligned with AVC’s fundraising priorities
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with corporations and foundations in support of the college’s mission
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local veterinarians, government representatives, and AVC alumni in Nova Scotia
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with AVC alumni in the United States
  • In collaboration with the senior development team, identify and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and current donors with major gift capacity, ensuring consistent movement through the donor cycle (identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) to create and maximize financial contributions and enhance relationships between donors and AVC
  • Collaborate with UPEI Department of Advancement and Alumni Engagement to prepare and present compelling funding proposals and presentations that align donor interests with institutional priorities
  • Communicate AVC’s mission, vision, and impact through strong storytelling and relationship-building strategies
  • Support marketing and communications initiatives in collaboration with the AVC External Engagement Officer
  • Lead the planning and execution of AVC’s fundraising events in Canada and the US, in collaboration with the AVC Event Planner and UPEI Department of Advancement and Alumni Engagement
  • Lead special projects and events assigned that enhance community engagement and the college’s advancement
  • Attend weekly virtual meetings with colleagues at AVC and in-person meetings and/or events twice a year at AVC
  • Other duties as assigned by the AVC External Engagement Officer or Dean

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum four-year undergraduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years of experience in major gift fundraising or capital campaign work, preferably within a post-secondary, veterinary, or non-profit setting
  • Demonstrated success in managing industry, alumni and/or donor relationships and securing financial support. Established and demonstrated engagement experience in the Halifax community would be considered a strong asset
  • Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience planning and executing donor campaigns and communications (ex: Giving Tuesday, year-end appeals, donor events)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic team environment
  • High level of emotional intelligence, professionalism, discretion, and judgment
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and donor-centered fundraising
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation considered an asset

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidate holds valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Candidate holds valid passport and eligibility to travel abroad
