One of a network of provincial community health centers, the NorWest Community Health Centers is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.

We are currently seeking 1FTE contract Medical Secretary/Receptionist position to join our team. The Medical Secretary/Receptionist is a valued member of the Community Health Centre team and is responsible for monitoring client flow, handling incoming telephone calls, scheduling appointments, and updating the client database. This is position requires providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced work environment. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage multiple tasks, respond efficiently when greeting clients and visitors in person and over the phone, and work effectively as part of a team.

The position has a competitive salary, and with the option to join the Health Care of Ontario’s Pension Plan (HOOPP).

The hourly range for this position is $23.053 to $27.775. We do not use AI to screen resumes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in office or business administration or an acceptable combination of education, training and work experience.
  • Experience as a Receptionist and/or Medical Secretary in a health care setting is preferred.
  • Able to work as part of a team while supporting and communicating effectively with co-workers.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which includes weekdays, evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, perform well under stress, and deal with multiple demands and unpredictable delays.
  • Excellent organizational skills, judgement, diplomacy, tact and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of and advanced level of proficiency working with office management systems and procedures.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrates a professional and friendly manner and has experience dealing with the public in a way that is mature, sensitive and helpful both over the telephone and in person.
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology and high proficiency/accuracy in word processing and data entry skills.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to socio-economic and cultural issues.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, non-insured).
