The Data Governance and Controls Specialist will ensure that the data used and stored by the ENMAX Energy Mass Market organization is accurate, consistent, secure, and compliant with the relevant policies and regulations.

In this role you will work with different departments and stakeholders to define and implement data quality standards, data access rules, data security measures, and data governance processes. You will also monitor and report on the performance and effectiveness of the data governance and controls framework.

Major responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, data catalogs, data lineage, and data quality metrics in alignment with EEC and IT Corporate Data Strategy.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with data governance policies, procedures, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with data owners, data stewards, data analysts, and data users to understand and document their data needs and issues, risks, and gaps.
  • Provide guidance and support on data quality, data security, data privacy, and data compliance matters.
  • Conduct data / security audits, assessments, and remediation activities to ensure data quality and integrity to present findings as necessary in a governance committee.
  • Implement and support mechanism to share data with relevant stakeholders (Other BU and City of Calgary) that align with corporate policies.
  • Responsible for all user and security roles within Mass Market IS applications. Example – implement a process to ensure user and security roles are compliant with code of conduct.
  • Liaise with Business to understand Data Retention policies, and work with BU to help guide and support data retention policies
  • Evaluate and recommend data governance and controls tools and technologies.
  • Ensure all data sources, whether on-prem or in cloud, are cataloged and classified using data architecture and information classification standards, from the point of creation to the end of the lifecycle.
  • Maintain SAP reporting framework to reduce duplication of reports as new requests come in.
  • Manage the life cycle of critical data and business information necessary for business leaders to make timely, effective, fact and risk-based business decisions.

Education required:

  • Related University Degree with a minimum of 4 years’ data management and governance experience, and an accreditation in data management is required; or
  • Related diploma with a minimum of 6 years’ data management and governance experience, and an accreditation in data management is required.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of the concepts pertaining to data governance, data management, data modelling (dimensional and relational), quality and metadata management.
  • First-hand knowledge of the cloud data platforms and their key components, such as data lakes, pipelines, orchestration, ELT/ELT procedures.
  • Experience operating and maintaining data governance platforms, such as Microsoft Purview
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, and technology architecture related to the management of data assets.
  • Experience in the development, implementation, and stewardship of data management systems and/or programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

Salary: Analyst Level C (Current CUPE 2025 rates)

$99,626.44 - $105,855.57 - $112,084.70 - $118,313.83 - $124,542.96

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid work model that includes Core Days in office (Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays), and more time to focus on Mondays and Fridays, either in the office or at home. The office workspace is located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB).
