Winnipeg, MB

About the role

About Us
At Custom Castings, part of the Nordstern Group, we're not looking for someone to just manage. We're looking for someone to lead, motivate, and inspire. Our aluminum foundry is the heart of our business, and we need a leader who knows how to bring people together, lead performance higher, and make sure we're always moving forward.

Position Summary:
This role is about more than keeping operations running. It's about building a team, setting high standards, and leading results. You ll oversee every part of foundry operations - from melting and molding to pouring, finishing, and machining support - and make sure the entire process is safe, efficient, and reliable.
We run a Lean facility with a strong foundation in 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and a culture of continuous improvement. Our next leader must believe in structure and building a culture where Lean isn't just a program - it's how we work every day.
While direct foundry experience is ideal, we also welcome candidates with strong machining, industrial, or manufacturing leadership experience who are eager to take on the challenge of leading in a foundry environment.
We are open to candidates from across Canada and will consider those interested in relocating to Winnipeg.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the people. Mentor and develop frontline leaders and staff. Build a culture of teamwork, accountability, and pride in workmanship.
  • Own the process. Oversee daily operations with a focus on consistency, quality, and efficiency.
  • Raise the bar. Drive improvements in scrap reduction, yield, and productivity. Implement lean practices and new technology to make operations stronger.
  • Protect the team. Champion safety and compliance in every step of the process.
  • Shape the future. Contribute to strategy, capacity planning, and investment decisions that will define the foundry for years to come.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in foundry, machining, industrial, or manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a management role.
  • Strong knowledge of aluminum casting processes (gravity, sand, permanent mold) preferred, or a willingness and ability to learn quickly.
  • Proven track record of improving performance and reducing waste.
  • Strong background in Lean Manufacturing and 5S implementation.
  • Formal Lean training: yellow, green and black belts are highly desirable.
  • Leadership skills that bring out the best in people.

Work Environment

  • Regular engagement on the foundry floor alongside the team.
  • Exposure to molten metal, high heat, and industrial machinery.

Why Join?
Because this is your chance to lead from the front. To take a strong team and make it even better. To leave your mark on a company that's growing, innovating, and investing in its future.
