Position Summary:
The Picker (Metal Sorter/General Labourer) is responsible for sorting through scrap metal or plastic according to grade and size. This is a full-time, permanent, non-exempt position.

Location: Mitchell Island, Richmond, BC

Salary: $25.27 per hour

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Department Supervisors/Managers

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Remove metal/plastic from sorting table, hand-truck, or conveyor by sight
• Keep the work area clean
• May be assigned to operate or repair simple mechanical equipment
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience:

• 1–3 months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Manufacturing or production associate experience considered an asset
• Forklift certification is an asset

Skills:

• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and plan ahead
• Logical thinking and problem-solving
• Good interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements:

• Must have own vehicle to commute to site
• Ability to stand, lift, and move objects regularly (25 lbs frequently; up to 50 lbs often; up to 100 lbs with assistance)
• Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and criminal background check
• Comfortable wearing full PPE (uniform, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hard hat, earplugs, gloves)
• Must be willing to work afternoon/evening shift

Work Conditions:

• Regular exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving parts, outdoor weather, and vibration
• Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles
• Loud noise environment
