Lerners is seeking a Legal Assistant to support the Plaintiff Personal Injury practice group in the Toronto, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have over three (3) years of experience working in a similar position. The successful candidate will support one (1) busy partner and one (1) busy associate and will be comfortable managing competing priorities in a high-volume litigation practice. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of three (3) days in office or as required. The deadline for applying is March 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Primary Responsibilities
- Serving as a first point of contact for clients and prospective clients, including answering phones and managing inquiries
- Managing lawyers’ calendars, scheduling meetings and appointments, and coordinating teleconferences, mediations, case and settlement conferences
- Drafting, sending, and responding to correspondence with lawyers, clients, experts, service providers and the courts
- Opening and closing files, conducting conflict searches and maintaining accurate electronic file records
- Compiling, serving, and filing motion records, mediation materials, affidavit of documents, trial records and other court documents/materials
- Preparing and filing materials with the License Appeal Tribunal (LAT)
- Maintaining an effective bring-forward (BF) system to track deadlines and next steps
- Preparing accounts, invoices, and expense reports; processing payments and deposits; and communicating with clients regarding billing matters
- Maintaining organized electronic files, including scanning, uploading and properly naming documents in Primafact and/or the firm’s document management system (iManage)
- Performing other administrative duties related to the practice as required
Qualifications And Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably in a litigation environment
- Personal Injury experience is required
- Solid understanding of the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS), License Appeal Tribunal (LAT) processes, tort claims and limitation periods
- Deep familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure, particularly as it pertains to service requirements and deadlines
- Excellent organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills, with strong attention to detail
- Professional demeanor, strong work ethic, and commitment to high‑quality client service
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team, anticipate needs, and follow tasks through to completion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to receive and apply feedback
- Experience with technology and working in a hybrid environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn firm‑specific systems
- Knowledge of Primafact is a strong asset
- Experience with Automated Civil Litigation (ACL), Case Center, Justice Services Online (JSO) portal, iManage, OneDrive and RelativityOne, are assets
