Job Title: Facilities Electrician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Facilities Electrician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of all electrical systems within the facility by troubleshooting and repairing plant electrical systems to reduce downtime and maintain productivity. This position will perform scheduled preventative maintenance on electrical infrastructure and equipment to keep them running efficiently.

A significant part of this role will involve hands-on, bench-level repairs of various components, such as motors, temperature controllers, and lighting fixtures. In addition to electrical work, this position also provides support for critical facility systems, including chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, pumps, and other building equipment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Operates, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and repairs a wide range of plant electrical components, including power distribution systems, bus ducts, motors, building automation controls, electrical wiring, conduits, feeders, lighting fixtures, and mechanical equipment such as HVAC systems, air compressors, chillers, and cooling towers, including 600,480, 400, 347, 240, 277, 208 and 120 AC to DC volts in Toronto plant and 480, 400, 277, 208, 120 AC to DC volts in LS plant.
  • Coordinates infrared scanning of electrical panels, splitters, transformers, switches, and other critical components, and ensures that all deficiencies identified during inspections are promptly corrected.
  • Diagnoses and repairs electrical issues related to the resin conveying system, including vacuum pumps, railcar unloading systems, Bindicator Yo-Yo in Toronto or Laser in LS, level sensors, vacuum controllers, servomotors, blenders, and various controllers such as Maguire and Conair
  • Disconnects molding and printing machines in preparation for equipment relocation, ensuring all disconnections are performed safely and in accordance with electrical codes.
  • Installs new or relocated molding and printing machines, including full electrical connection and functionality testing.
  • Maintains and repairs all indoor and outdoor lighting systems, including fixture replacement, bulb changes, and control system adjustments.
  • Performs bench-level repairs on motors, lighting fixtures, temperature controllers, and other small electrical equipment.
  • Operates lifting equipment such as scissor lifts and zoom booms to safely access overhead lighting fixtures, ceiling-mounted electrical panels, and other elevated installations, ensuring compliance with all applicable safety standards and training certifications.
  • Provides hands-on support in the operation and routine maintenance of all key plant equipment and utility systems—such as chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, pumps, vacuum pumps, and the railcar unloading systems, as required by plant operations, ensuring reliable performance and responding to equipment demands based on production schedules and facility needs.
  • Assists the Facility Supervisor in establishing documentation, spare parts, and preventive maintenance requirements for new projects, and in coordinating with electrical contractors for outsourced work.
  • Assists in maintaining the electrical shop in a clean, organized, and hazard-free condition, supporting a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Supports regular housekeeping duties and provides assistance to other departments as required, contributing to overall plant operations and team objectives.

Note: Work is performed in a production environment with moderate levels of noise. Heavy lifting and prolonged standing is required. Walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling, gripping and grasping, are required in this position.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Educational Requirements: Industrial Electrical license required and/or must have completed a recognized electrical apprenticeship program.

Minimum Experience/Field: 3 – 5 years of experience as an Industrial Electrician in manufacturing industry; plastic industry preferred.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting and prolonged standing is required. Walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling are required in this position. Working indoors and outdoors on company premises.

Communication Skills: Job required fluency in written and spoken English is a must. Proven track record working well with others and problem resolution in a collaborative, positive manner.

Additional Education/Experience/Skills: Strong electrical ability and ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints. Knowledge of building control systems. Wallet certificate to safely use, inspect and operate Scissor lift, skyjack, genie, zoom-boom preferred.

Training: On-the-job training is provided by the company using the buddy system until the individual is completely familiar with workplace environment and equipment. Health and Safety, WHMIS, SQF policies and procedures are provided by Polytainers.
