About the role
DOCUMENTATION TECHNICAN Director: Mathieu Canavan We are seeking to fill two full-time Library Technician positions, each requiring a 35-hour workweek. Education Incumbents will be centralized within Educational Services and assigned to our vacant schools on a one school per day rotating schedule: Edgewater Clearpoint Maple Grove Sherbrooke Sr. Dorset St. Patrick Dorval Verdun Kingsdale PETES Westpark Margaret Manson Riverview Forest Hill Jr. St. Charles Sherbrooke Jr. Beacon Hill
Cyclical layoff during the summer period Qualifications Hold a Diploma of College Studies in Information and Library Technologies or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
Other Requirements
- Bilingual (French and English)
- Knowledge of an automated library program (REGARD would be an asset)
- Knowledge of collection development and collection maintenance procedures
- Knowledge of cataloguing and classification principles
- Knowledge of literature
- Ability to interact comfortably with students
- Provide a positive and comfortable environment for students
- Time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with staff
- Computer and information literate
- Knowledge of ebooks and digital resources
- Knowledge of the QEP and understanding of the role that the library plays within that program would be an asset
- Knowledge of a 21st century library is an asset
- Knowledge of Google Apps for Education is an asset
Nature Of The Work The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in performing technical tasks related to the organization and operation of one or more documentation centers: libraries or document management centers.
The employee in this class of employment may provide technical assistance to personnel involved in document management and to users of documentation centers.
Daily Tasks/Dossiers
- Based at Head Office to catalogue books and coordinate the setup of bins at each school.
- Ensuring the smooth operation of the library learning commons.
- Maintaining the physical collection of the library learning commons.
- Developing the collection and purchasing library materials.
- Maintaining the library database in accordance with school board procedures.
- Check books in and out based on book loans practices adopted by the school.
