As the Team Lead - Operations, you will lead a team responsible for supporting Acquisitions and Hired Fleet operations, including the purchase, build coordination and deployment of permanent fleet vehicles and equipment while also coordinating deployment of rented units and hired services. This role oversees a team that supports the delivery of efficient fleet acquisition and hired services through vendor coordination, contract ownership, coordination of pre-service internal activities, lifecycle tracking, billing administration, and operational reporting.

You will work closely with internal clients, vendors and operational partners to ensure timely deployment of units to support continuity of essential services. This position also supports procurement and operational planning activities related to fleet acquisitions, rentals, and hired services. Primary duties include:

  • Lead daily operations by supervising New Unit Coordinators and Rental Coordinators, to deliver services while managing a budget and fostering a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive work environment.
  • Oversee procurement execution by reviewing and approving vehicle and equipment transactions, purchase requisitions, invoicing, and Operator Machine Reports, ensuring accurate forecasting and accruals.
  • Coordinate unit delivery across internal partners including Supply, Fleet Manufacturing, Fleet Commissioning, and Business Units to ensure timely planning, build scheduling, commissioning, and deployment of new purchased and rented fleet assets.
  • Maintain continuity and vendor performance by ensuring appropriate contracts are in place, initiating Request For Proposal (RFX) activities, monitoring vendor delivery and quality, escalating issues through Supply Management, and integrating lessons learned into future strategies.
  • Monitor industry and supply chain conditions to identify risks, cost pressures, and market disruptions, maintaining a risk register and recommending mitigation strategies in collaboration with Applications, Engineering, and Finance.
  • Resolve operational challenges by removing roadblocks for staff, addressing vendor issues, navigating insufficient RFX responses, adjusting procurement schedules, and communicating impacts and corrective actions to Business Units.

Qualifications

  • A diploma in Business Administration or equivalent with a specialization in supply chain management, operations management, logistics, contract management, or a related field, and a minimum of 7 years of increasingly complex related experience including supervisory responsibilities; OR
  • A diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology and a minimum of 7 years of progressive related experience, including at least 5 years supporting vehicle and equipment procurement and 3 years of project management experience; OR
  • A degree in Business Administration, Management, Commerce, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of increasingly complex related experience including supervisory responsibilities and demonstrated experience in supply chain management, operations management, logistics, or contract management.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), PMP (Project Management Professional), CPP (Certified Purchasing Professional), or related designations.
  • Experience working with procurement, financial or asset management systems such as SAP Ariba, PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Management (FSCM) , or AssetWorks CAM would be considered an asset.
  • Success in this role requires strong leadership, collaboration, technical coordination, communication skills, and demonstrated problem-solving experience.
