The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Estimating the Junior Estimator will be tasked with assist with reviewing drawings, completing quantity takeoffs, gathering pricing, preparing tender documentation and maintaining estimating records. The position also includes a significant administrative component, such as monitoring tender invitations, organizing bid documents and coordinating submissions.

Please note that this is a one-year contract position, with the potential for extension or conversion to permanent, full-time employment based on business needs and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating Support Review construction drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports and tender documents. Assist with quantity takeoffs for shoring and deep-foundation scopes. Identify labour, material, equipment and subcontractor requirements. Support the preparation of preliminary budgets, cost estimates and tender submissions. Request and organize quotations from suppliers, subcontractors and equipment providers. Compare quotations and assist the estimating team with scope and pricing reviews. Assist in identifying drawing discrepancies, scope gaps and potential project risks. Maintain accurate cost information and historical pricing for future estimates. Participate in site visits and pre-bid meetings when required. Support estimate handover documentation following project award.

Estimating Administration

Monitor incoming tender invitations, emails and bid opportunities. Download, organize and distribute drawings, specifications and tender addenda. Create and maintain electronic tender folders using consistent filing practices. Maintain bid calendars, tender lists, submission deadlines and follow-up reminders. Track requests for quotations and follow up with suppliers and subcontractors. Prepare tender forms, bid breakdowns, scope sheets and supporting documents. Confirm that required documents are complete before submission. Assist with uploading bids through client and electronic tendering portals. Maintain vendor, supplier and subcontractor contact information. Record tender results and update estimating trackers and bid-status reports. Coordinate signatures, bonding, insurance or other submission requirements with the appropriate departments. Provide general administrative support to the estimating and preconstruction team.

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related field. Up to a year of estimating, construction coordination or project administration experience; co-op experience will be considered. Exposure to shoring, deep foundations, excavation, concrete, structural steel or heavy civil construction is an asset. Basic ability to read construction drawings and specifications. Understanding of construction quantities, measurements and basic cost calculations. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe PDF applications. Experience with Bluebeam or construction estimating software is an asset.

Valid driver’s licence and ability to attend project sites when required
