We are seeking a temporary Electrician Journeyperson to join our Telecommunications Department in Winnipeg, Manitoba for an
approximate 18 month term.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical installation, repair, maintenance, and modifications to support the operation of all telecommunication assets

throughout the province. Some examples of this include battery bank replacements (installation and commissioning), antenna
installations, installation of masts on exterior of buildings and routing of cables from exterior to interior of buildings, installation
of building penetrations, high and low voltage AC/DC wiring, etc.

  • Recommend field design changes and implement in remote areas with little guidance
  • Monitor the productivity and work by contractors at telecommunications sites throughout the province to ensure standards are

adhered to and maintained. Work safely in all situations and conditions, including manholes, excavation vaults and at heights
using ladders, bucket trucks and other aerial devices.

  • Perform inside plant work such as cable pulling, routing, cable tray modification and installation and equipment rack wiring.
  • Support telecommunication outside plant duties, such as fiber splicing and testing.
  • Provide mentorship to other telecommunication staff for wiring standards and safe work practices.
  • Required to travel outside the headquarter zone for periods sometimes exceeding two weeks.
  • Required to travel to remote and isolated locations by various modes of transportation including aircraft.
  • Ensure tools, equipment and vehicles are used in a safe, professional manner and kept in proper inventoried working order.
  • Attend shop safety meetings, obtain all safety qualifications/certifications required for the position, and follow all safety rules

and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Manitoba Certificate of Qualification as a Journeyperson Electrician and possess a valid Manitoba Department of

Labour Journeyperson Electrician's Licence, plus one year of experience in the installation of electrical equipment and
systems associated with commercial buildings.

  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision from diagrams, prints, manuals, and oral or written instructions.
  • Proven diagnostic skills and thoroughly familiar with the use of current electrical measuring instruments, devices, equipment,

apparatus and the interpretation of schematics, construction drawing practices and techniques.

  • Required to have an aptitude for the application of technical skills related to electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems and

equipment.

  • Must be thoroughly conversant with the requirements and interpretations of the Canadian Electrical Code and safe working

practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of manual dexterity and skill.
  • Must understand and adhere to Corporate Policies, Manitoba Hydro Safety Rules, Safe Work Procedures and other approved

practices and procedures with the ability to provide guidance to subordinate staff on the interpretations. Demonstrated ability

to work outside or inside in all kinds of unusual weather or space confined conditions.

  • Able to quickly mobilize, travel and work both inside and outside the province as required for emergency, project work or

training.

  • Physically capable of performing all the duties of the position. (i.e., ability to work at heights, confined spaces, etc.)
  • Possess a valid minimum Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence.
  • Must have completed Standards of Conduct training, or have it completed within two weeks of start date.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba

Hydro policy P513.

  • Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $38.60-$45.18 Hourly,
$73,956.22-$86,572.20 Annually.
