Team & Job Overview:

The Director, Data Management and Governance leads the enterprise-wide data governance and stewardship function and serves as the central authority for how data is owned, governed, and stewarded across the organization. The role is accountable for strengthening data ownership, stewardship, and governance practices to ensure that critical data is trusted, well‑managed, and fit for strategic, operational, and risk‑management use.

The Director will lead a team of 5-6 individual contributors, and operate in a highly matrixed environment, leading through influence rather than direct authority—aligning business, technology, risk, and analytics stakeholders around shared data standards, priorities, and outcomes. The role balances enterprise consistency with domain‑level accountability, enabling governance to scale without constraining delivery.

The Director champions the treatment of data as a strategic enterprise asset, ensuring common definitions, standards, metadata, and quality practices support consistent understanding and use of data across the organization.

A core focus of the role is embedding data governance and stewardship early in enterprise initiatives, including strategic programs, data modernization efforts, and system implementations. By shaping data requirements, standards, and controls upfront, the Director helps improve data quality, reduce downstream risk, and accelerate adoption of trusted data.

Beyond frameworks and controls, the Director is responsible for building a strong data culture—maturing the data steward role, strengthening data literacy, and fostering communities of practice that reinforce shared accountability for data across senior leadership and operational teams.

The Director, Data Management and Governance reports to the Vice President, Enterprise Analytics & Forecasting (EAF). EAF is a centralized analytics team, providing internal stakeholders at all levels of the company with analytics, forecasts and performance reporting ranging from prospecting all the way down to financial results.

What you will be doing:

  • Serve as the enterprise authority for data governance and stewardship, setting direction, priorities, and decision frameworks.

  • Define, evolve, and operationalize the enterprise Data Governance framework aligned to business strategy and risk expectations.

  • Establish clear governance forums, escalation paths, and decision rights for data‑related issues.

  • Drive executive awareness, engagement, and sponsorship of the data governance mandate.

  • Ensure all critical enterprise data has clearly defined Data Owners and Data Stewards with documented accountabilities.

  • Mature the Data Steward role through standards, training, communities of practice, and ongoing engagement.

  • Lead enterprise Data Steward forums, councils, and working groups.

  • Lead the development, simplification, and renewal of data‑related policies and standards & oversee compliance

  • Support internal audit, risk control self‑assessments (RCSA), and remediation activities related to data governance.

  • Provide governance oversight for data access, usage, monitoring, and controls.

  • Lead the development and enterprise adoption of the Enterprise Data Catalog.

  • Oversee metadata, business glossary, and data asset inventory practices to support data discovery, shared vocabulary, and reuse.

  • Drive catalog modernization initiatives and targeted training to increase adoption and value realization.

  • Establish and promote enterprise data quality standards, metrics, and monitoring practices.

  • Improve enterprise visibility into data quality through reporting, certification, and metadata integration.

  • Embed data governance and stewardship into enterprise initiatives, system implementations, and data modernization programs.

  • Provide advisory input to ensure data requirements, standards, and risks are addressed early in delivery lifecycles.

  • Build strong partnerships across business, analytics, technology, risk, security, and strategy functions.

  • Align competing priorities and governance models to enable coherent, enterprise‑wide data practices.

  • Lead and develop a high‑performing data governance and stewardship team.

  • Foster a strong data culture grounded in ownership, accountability, and literacy.

  • Build sustainable stewardship capability across the enterprise.

What we’re looking for:

  • Successful experience in business and data modernization in large organizations.
  • Capability to translate business strategy into data requirements, and vice-versa.
  • Ability to define and sustainably implement new ways of working.
  • Demonstrated team building and partnership capabilities.
  • Customer first mindset.
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying end-to-end data governance frameworks for a global financial institution.
  • Experience developing new and innovative success metrics of a forward-thinking data-enabled digital organization.
  • Minimum 5 years leadership and change management experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or another related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in business intelligence and reporting, data management, or related experience.
