Job Description
Reporting to the National Director, Nutritional Care and Culinary Services, the Dietary Consultant will work closely with operational leaders in Long-Term Care (LTC) Homes and Retirement communities across the Residential Care Division to promote clinical and operational excellence. This role focuses on improving interprofessional clinical practices and quality outcomes through education, training, safety issue mitigation, and quality improvement initiatives
informed by data analysis.
The consultant will also collaborate with the Corporate Quality & Risk team and other departments to develop and implement care standards, best practices, and continuous learning opportunities, ensuring high-quality care and exceptional resident experiences.
These responsibilities will primarily be carried out within assigned LTC Homes and Retirement Communities, with approximately 60-80% of the role spent on-site.
Key Responsibilities include:

Develop and implement nutrition and culinary operations standards of care aligned with best practices, professional regulations, and relevant legislation.

Support resident safety processes, including chart audits, staff interviews, root cause analyses, risk trend assessments, and action plan implementation.

Design and deliver inter-professional education and training to optimize nutrition and food service practices.

Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement by sharing best practices and providing guidance.

Train and mentor staff and leaders on policies, standard operating procedures, and regulatory standards.

Use adult education techniques to meet diverse learning needs and promote knowledge exchange.
-
Encourage a just safety culture by fostering psychological safety and non-punitive learning.

Identify and co-develop quality improvement initiatives focused on food and nutrition services.
-
Lead the implementation of quality projects aligned with strategic priorities.

Mentor staff and leaders to promote a culture of performance excellence.

Monitor quality, safety, and risk management practices to ensure adherence to frameworks.

Provide operational guidance on enhancing the dining experience, including menu planning, product evaluation, and cost optimization.

Support accreditation, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance processes.

Share performance data to drive informed decision-making.
What we’re looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in Dietetics (with internship) or member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
- 3–5 years of progressive experience, in LTC Homes or Retirement Communities.
- Proficiency in quality improvement methodologies, project coordination, and change management.
- Experience with Health Information Systems (e.g., PointClickCare) is an asset.
- Skilled in data analysis and applying legislative, regulatory, and quality assurance frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, consensus-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Commitment to relationship-centered care and service excellence.
- Ability to travel regularly within the assigned province (60-80% of the role) and occasionally across Canada.
