Description:

The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) is included in the Speech, Language and Hearing Department as part of Special Education Programs and Services for the HWCDSB. The CDA works closely with Speech-Language Pathologists and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Central Resource Teachers, and reports to the Manager of Speech-Language and Hearing Services. The CDA is centrally assigned to support both elementary and secondary students in schools across the school board.

Under the clinical supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist, the CDA will support the delivery of services to students with speech, language, hearing and/or communication needs. This position also involves supporting students who are nonverbal or low verbal and use AAC (low-tech or high-tech devices) and students who are deaf and hard of hearing and require equipment to support learning.

Qualifications: (Applicants shall possess the following as of date of posting)

  • Post graduate certificate from an accredited Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) program.
  • Experience in a school setting.
  • Knowledge/experience in delivering speech, language and communication intervention in person and when required virtually.
  • Solid knowledge of software programs such as MSTeams, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Boardmaker software use and knowledge is recommended.
  • Knowledge and training in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and special communication devices
  • Knowledge/experience in supporting students who are deaf and hard of hearing
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and documentation skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle to travel to any school within the Board's jurisdiction throughout the school year.
  • Flexibility regarding schedule within a 7-hour work day.
