Job Summary & Requirements The Plumber , under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor or Manager, maintains the integrity and safety operation of the plumbing, drain lines and all other piping systems in the hospital and performs new construction as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment per computer issued preventative maintenance work orders
- Maintain water fixtures/devices, pumps, valves and plumbing drainage systems
- Survey and monitor water supply and drainage to ensure proper operations
- Perform routine and emergency repairs on systems and equipment per repair requests (demand maintenance work orders)
- Conduct building and equipment plumbing, piping and safety inspections
- Fill out preventative and demand maintenance work orders and inspection logs in a complete and timely manner
- Maintain the organization of the plumbing shop, including stocking of parts, cleanup, etc.
- Maintain “Certificate of Qualification” and attend training courses, workshops, etc.
- Maintain current maintenance manuals, drawings and other documentation encountered during the course of work
- Participate in CQI processes by identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting CQI activities
- Work in a safe and effective manner in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act; and report to their supervisor any unsafe and defective equipment or protective clothing
- Perform other duties which may be assigned by his immediate
Qualifications: Education
- Minimum Grade 12 or approved equivalent
- Certified in Cross Connections and Back Flow Prevention
- Must have “Certificate of Apprenticeship” and an up to date “Certificate of Qualification” in accordance with the Apprenticeship and Tradesmen’s Qualification Act of the Province of Ontario.
Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing and deliver outstanding customer service to internal Clients.
- Comfort working independently prioritizing a wide variety of preventative maintenance and demand-call tasks in a fast-pace and dynamic environment.
- Capable of providing superior customer service responding to routine, urgent and emergency demand calls as, and when, assigned in an effort to safeguard the efficient and safe operation of the hospital.
- Ability to reflect the core values of the hospital with respect to patient privacy, diligent execution of duties, in addition to the overall integrity and safety of patients and staff.
- Experience working productively and in concert with outside contractors and vendors to ensure building systems functions are maintained.
- Willingness to work independently and prioritize a wide variety of preventative and demand call maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity and willingness to learn and become proficient in the reading and operation of modern fire panel, elevator, HVAC and mechanical systems.
- Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, operating manuals.
- Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of building codes, fire regulations, WHMIS, OHSA, ESA, TSSA requirements.
- Fundamental computer skills, including ability to write short memos and provide updates using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka.
