Commercial Carpenter (Red Seal Journeyperson)
Southern Alberta (Site-Based)
Wage: $29.93 - $38.91/hour
Perform skilled carpentry work across commercial construction projects in Southern Alberta, with Living Out Allowance (LOA), accommodations, and steady work provided.
The Role
We are currently seeking a Commercial Carpenter (Red Seal Journeyperson) to join our team on commercial construction projects across Southern Alberta. This is a site-based role requiring travel, with LOA and accommodations provided while working onsite.
You will report to the Foreperson, Supervisor, or Superintendent (as assigned), and perform skilled commercial carpentry work. Your role will be to ensure installations and assemblies meet drawings and specifications, applicable building codes, and project quality and safety requirements. This role is ideal for a Journeyperson Carpenter who takes pride in quality work, works well in a team environment, and is comfortable travelling for project-based work.

Key Responsibilities
Carpentry & Installation
- Complete assigned commercial carpentry works safely, efficiently, and to quality standards
- Perform layout using drawings and control lines; measure, cut, assemble, and install materials with accuracy (plumb, level, square)
- Install and or modify commercial framing systems, including wood and metal studs, backing, sheathing, and firestopping interfaces (as directed within scope)
- Build and strip concrete formwork and or place embeds, sleeves, and blocking as required by drawings and site coordination
- Install commercial doors, frames, hardware, washroom accessories, millwork, casework, and specialty items per manufacturer instructions and specs
- Install acoustic ceiling systems (T-bar/grid), soffits, bulkheads, and related components where required by the project
Safety & Equipment
- Follow all site safety requirements in compliance with Alberta OHS legislation and Westcor standards
- Complete and document Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) and other required safety processes
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and uphold strong housekeeping practices
- Safely use, inspect, and maintain tools and equipment; ensure guards are in place and defective tools are removed from service
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate daily work with other trades (drywall, mechanical, electrical, glazing, etc.)
- Communicate constraints, material requirements, and progress updates to the Foreperson, Supervisor, or Superintendent
- Support efficient workflow and sequencing of work in a multi-trade environment
Quality & Project Close-Out
- Identify deficiencies and rework items, and participate in the deficiency list completion
- Support quality control processes and project close-out activities
Team Support & Documentation
- Support the training and mentoring of apprentices and junior workers
- Maintain accurate daily documentation, including timesheets, safety records, inspections, and deficiency tracking
Required Qualifications & Skills
Trade Certification and Core Competencies
- Valid Alberta Journeyperson Carpenter certificate (or recognized equivalent) Red Seal preferred
- Strong ability to read and interpret commercial construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings, and able to perform accurate layout
- Proficient with commercial carpentry tools and equipment (hand/power tools, lasers, levels, transit), able to verify plumb/level/square and tolerances
- Working knowledge of commercial building assemblies, including metal/wood stud framing, sheathing, doors, frames, hardware, casework, specialty finishes, and acoustic ceiling systems (T-bar)
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, hazard identification, and housekeeping in active commercial construction sites
- Valid Alberta driver’s license

Safety Tickets and Site Requirements (project dependent):
- Standard First Aid / CPR
- WHMIS
- Fall Protection (as applicable)
- Aerial Work Platform / Elevated Work Platform (as applicable)
- Forklift / Telehandler (as applicable)
- Scaffold User (as applicable)
- Confined Space Awareness (as applicable)
Leadership, Mentoring:
- Demonstrated ability to mentor apprentices and support on-the-job training
- Crew lead and foreperson development training (as applicable)
Work Environment and Travel
- Full-time, site-based role in Southern Alberta (including locations such as Taber, Claresholm, and Nanton)
- Includes travel to Calgary for team meetings and collaboration, as needed
Compensation and Benefits
- Wage: $29.93 - $38.91/hour, depending on experience
- Overtime may be required based on project needs and is paid in accordance with Alberta Employment Standards
