About the Role
We are seeking a qualified individual to fill the System Quality Coordinator role for a major construction project. This role requires a strong background in Systems and MEP disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing). The ideal candidate will hold an EIT, CET, or P. Eng designations and will become an integral part of the on-site team, ensuring quality and safety remain top priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. While fully embedded in the daily operations of the project, this role will maintain a strong connection with the broader Terracon team through regular on-site check-ins from Terracon supervision and management, fostering ongoing support and collaboration. As the Project System Quality Coordinator, you will implement and maintain quality control processes throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure all work meets project specifications and upholds the highest standards.
Please note: This is a project-based position, and the term of employment will be aligned with the duration of the project.
Location & Work Environment:
- Opportunities are based in Edmonton.
- Standard 8 hours work schedule and may involve up to a 12-hour day or night shifts, including weekends.
- Primarily field based with site inspections.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitor construction performance to proactively identify variances and deficiencies.
- Conduct regular surveillance audits and site walkdowns to document and resolve non-conformities.
- Enforce the requirements of the quality control program and the Project Quality Manual.
- Review, approve, and support the development of Inspection and Testing Plans (ITPs), including checklists and inspection forms.
- Perform on-site physical inspections to verify compliance with ITP requirements.
- Ensure all project personnel understand and adhere to specification requirements.
- Provide oversight and guidance to Subcontractors’ Quality Inspectors and Field Engineers.
- Evaluate subcontractor performance and report findings to the Project Quality Manager.
- Ensure project quality requirements are clearly communicated to vendors and contractors.
- Oversee material receiving processes for compliance and proper handling.
- Track and manage nonconformance reports, ensuring timely resolution.
- Promote the Project’s Quality Policy, Objectives, and Absolutes throughout all phases.
- Recommend improvements and support the implementation of corrective actions as needed.
- Deliver quality briefings during daily MIP orientations and subcontractor kickoff meetings.
- Lead the construction turnover process for assigned scopes and verify quality record completeness.
Required Experience:
- TPSS (Traction Power Substation System) installation and wiring.
- Switchgear installation and testing.
- Overhead Catenary System (OCS) inspections and quality verification.
- SCADA systems.
- Communication and monitoring systems.
- Previous experience in construction quality control or assurance roles.
- Solid understanding of quality systems, ITPs, and inspection processes.
- Previous experience in road construction, including traffic and transportation lighting systems.
Qualifications and Education:
- Degree or diploma in a relevant technical discipline, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Plumbing or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Familiar with quality management framework and standards.
- Professional Designations: EIT, CET, and P. Eng are in good standing.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to safety and quality.
- Comfortable working in a project-based, field-driven environment.
- WHMIS certification (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
- Knowledge of Alberta OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) legislation.
- Familiarity with cold climate construction practices and seasonal impacts on MEP installations.
